Strange tree to work in.

Yep a weeping beech tree 85 years old estimated. Did a deadwood prune on it (15-20% removal small branches (<5cm)). also repacked it in jute to preve4nt sunburn. This tree was relocated 2 years back. its been moved 20meters by sliding the rootplate (10x10meters, with 3 catterpillar cranes, 1 catterpillar dozer and a BIG shovel.) Also we will the tree give extra feeding and root activation to get back in shape.

Almost done, just need to finish the last parts of Jute winding on some limbs and the main trunk. Also give the feeding/activators after the upper work is done. All wood on the trailor is dead wood that came out!

wicked /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Its monumental for this region. We dont have that much big old trees here near the coast. a lot of old trees died because of salt water flooding the polders in 1953. Also most species grow fast on clay but die young compared to other soils.

The pruning was a hell of a job, i did most with a sliky saw and 1/3 with a felco pruning scissors. I had a trainie with me who just kept saying use a polesaw/polescissors..... No way i had to use one this time /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The pic show me horinzontal standing against a long wiggly limb. it should bare my weight but i really didnt want to load it to much vertical.

At 7' tall you'd still be standing on some half decent wood MC. Short little guys like me'd have to stand on 'the angel's bumhair' to get above the canopy. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nobody mentioned sunscald. Every weeping beech I have been in had sun burn very bad.

I removed a large one here aboot a year ago. It was old enough I guess. It was full of shrapnel.

If its about my gear;

I use a cresto belt with two sliding D rings. On one D-ring i have a 40meter coated line and the other D-ring just a 5meter line. If its a big tree i get instead of the 5 meter line a 46 meter line. I use them single, they have an eye on both sides though. I dont like that loop in the line hanging under me. Here i also used my lockjack cambiumsaver with pulley. With chainsaw climbing i also bring up a side D ring reglex cable. The carabiners i use are the Geko's. I like that small tip to hook in the line.
