Stolen Saws --- Reward!!

This past years has been tough in Michigan. Kappen Tree Service has had roughly 50 saws stolen in the past month from our trucks in mid Michigan. Before this we had saws stolen from another pull out of ours which really brings the number of saws around 70.

All saws are stamped with KTS and then a truck number. All saws are Stihl, ranging from 200t, 201t, 260, 261, 361, and 660.

Any information leading to our saws or preferably the prosecution and return of our saws will be rewarded with a $2000 reward. Not bad for doing the right thing, huh?

Thanks for your time and hopefully your help!

Hoe you get them back and the perps in jail. Seems to be going around. One of the locals here had his saws stolen by his crew who sold them for meth. He had to buy them back from the meth dealer. Needless to say he has an entire new crew. He is nicer than I would be, if it was me they would be in jail along with the meth dealer.

I think you spilled some coffee or something on your keyboard and the "0" is sticking. Your post reads 50 saws were stolen last month, and 70 so far this year.

Please tell me it is 5 and 7, and the reward is $200.

Lol! I wish it was 5 and 7, my friend but we have been hit hard this year. We had other things stolen that amounted to $150,000 in one night but the people involved have been "caught".

Thanks everybody. Hopefully we can catch these guys!

I wonder whether the geniuses at Stihl and Husky have thought of integrating homing transmitters into their saws as an anti-theft feature?

Are we in the 21st century yet?

Calling George Jetson!

Heck, I'd even settle for his Daughter Judy after losing 70 saws!

There are other geniuses who have tracking devices...no reason to lay that on Husky and Stihl.

LoJack for vehicles works. Other small ones.

Registering the serial numbers when saws are purchases is one way to keep a loose hold of them. Any dealer who services saws is supposed to back-track every saw brought in for service.

Well, you must admit it begs the question of whether Stihl and Husky sell more saws without integrated homing beacons, or integrated RFID tag?

I lost my patience once...who should have put a tracking device on it?

Where did my keys go? Oh...no homing beacon there...dang...Home Depot makes more money making me new keys...the thieves!

My hair...my hair...I lost it...where did it go??? Head and Shoulders should help me!

Take the saws to your Vet of choice and have them chipped, just like chipping your dog.

The main problem with the whole deal was the fact that 38 saws were stolen out of 7-8 trucks in one yard. Precautions were taken as in further locking procedures of the trucks and trail cams installed in the yard. Somehow a camera was removed and imagine that, the following weekend another 50ish saws are gone. If this was as easy as installing a chip in the 350 to 400 saws on our trucks I'm sure that we could find them but the overhead involved in that seems to be a huge undertaking. Thanks for the advice on tracking chips though!

Hopefully if anyone is offered one or any of these saws we can get a lead and proceed with the beatings! Thanks again.

How about manditory monday mornings drug testing for everyone. It appears to be time for some house cleaning.

All because of one and probably two goofs. Unless he's one of those smart criminals someone knows. You need to make the birdy sing. Just like school days with the teachers vs the code of silence. But the original thief may already be gone and running a used saw supply.

That dealer serial# might narrow it down to a region.

Ok. How exactly do the chips work? Are they powered internally? Do you have to pass within close proximity to them because they have a passive power source in order to detect their whereabouts?

Chipping one saw per truck would seem logical. Does anyone know off the top of their head the price of a tracking chip. Everyone seemed to offer that as their advice so I hope someone will hopefully have some information on these chips.

Boreality, unfortunately our first bit of stolen goods were from an inside source and I am assuming that this is as well but with 250 employees, its hard to pin point anything plus for "other" reasons house cleaning isn't as easy as one would hope. I do appreciate your advice along with everyone elses.

This is a very basic unit.

There are much more sophisticated tiny transmitters out there, but getting your hands on them is another story.

Their resistance to temp extremes would determine where they'd be located on the saw. Most likely the handle assembly?

It's rumored that our military has developed a nano version of these used to tag a terrorist, who slaps his neck, thinking he's been bitten by a mosquito, but in reality has been chipped, and can now be tracked and droned.

This bird tracker would be my choice for a saw.
