Stihl MS201

I would use it for climbing, limbing and some ground work...would use a 16" light bar...would be great for some of the tree's around here, but would use the 200 "T" most of time.....

my brother bought two 201 saws about a week ago.

he mentioned that is seemed underpowered and would not run the chain right, something odd.

then using it more, he said felt like clutch slipping and chain kept stopping.

saw shop started it up, tested it on a log and said, yup, that's bad, clutch is really slipping.

so... brand new saw, clutch already slipping or not performing correctly.

they are going to fix it under warranty they said.

I wonder why they changed the clutch design from one that was working.

Also, a thought on the power, probably illegal emmission wise to do this, but what about putting on a 200T carburetor and getting power back to the saw? i wonder if the carb studs and opening are the same on the cylinder wall? Maybe?

Hearing from him his story on this saw caused me to look on the buzz to see if anyone else mentioned the same thing. Yup.

Thanks, good info!!
All the more I need to keep looking for a ms 200....mabey I will get the 200T and get rear handle for it from dealer, convert it over, but probably to much money for the switch-over.....

I'm slightly confused.

I was referring to the MS 201T , the tree climbers saw with same top handle design shape as the 200T.

why do you want a rear handle?

just looked up some numbers, i think they should be right.

201T and 200T same engine displacement. 35.2cm2.

201T says 2.41 HP and old 200T says 2.3HP. So that is odd, 201T is claiming to have more horsepower. Is it just the clutch is crap then? And engine needs to break in more to give it's true horsepower?

Bad thing is it looks like the new 201T is more than a pound heavier than the older 200T. That doesn't make sense!

200T= 3.6kg. 201T=4.1kg.

I've been using a 201 for a few weeks, I kinda like it. I'm not sure if it's because I have to like it, or as there are no more 200ts left (I have two of those too).

I filled both my 200t, and 201t, same bar, and chain. Here's what my scale told me.

Im wanting the REAR handle version, ms200 with out the "T"

Used my new 201T all day yesterday. Brendon, I was surprised at your scale because my saw feels heavier than the 200T. I'm nursing a rotator cuff so that little extra weight felt like a ton. I did notice the saw lagged a little when I throttled. It also sounds like the RPMs' are lower. I have heard that improves after a few tanks of fuel. Cuts like a champ. Cut through some 16" oak like butter with a hand sharpened chain. I took out the screen for the spark arrestor and it doesn't seem to change things much, just where most of the exhaust comes out. It now blows through the plastic vents instead of the cut out for the muffler. I miss the sound of the 200 with the spark arrestor out. Just love the sound of that little saw screaming in the tree!!
I love how Stihl says not to run the saw at full RPM for 5 tanks of fuel. Do they not know we are out here to make $$$$. Even a new diesel truck doesn't need a break in. Oh well, just can't avoid it.
I haven't made up my mind on this saw but since I bought it, it really doesn't matter what I think!

Brendon's old 200 was clutted up with sawdust and oil.

Did anyone already have the saw revving uncontrolled after a cut? I mean that the saw keeps running high revs while the trigger is released? It really scared the * out of me.

The Stihl dealer told me that there can be a little problem in the handle bar with rubbing rods that connect the trigger and the carb. Idling with high revs before you can engage the chain brake freaks me out.

brendonv,

what happend to the rest of your post?

i think it said the 201 was 1/2 lb lighter than the 200T.

That's the way to weigh them, both with bars and chain and full of gas and oil.

So, are your unsure of your weighing?

Not sure what your on about, X.

You said "Bad thing is it looks like the new 201T is more than a pound heavier than the older 200T. That doesn't make sense!

200T= 3.6kg. 201T=4.1kg."

It made me think of the pics I had, so I posted them.

Sory for the confusion, I thought u had text that said half pound lighter, now I seee the two photos. Thats great that the new saw is lighter, no idea wwhy specs make it look like new one is heavier. Thanks for posting.
