SRT/Ddrt Rope Suggestion

Spot on. Yale 11.7s with it's poly/poly combo is perfection switching back and forth. Drenaline, km3max and xstatic were a disappointment. I stay away from atlantic braids for rope. Damn I have used so many ropes but Yale 11.7s smoke the pack for me. I am 99% SRT for over 8 years though.

What was main gripe with Atlantic Braids climb lines?

...with Atlantic Braids climb lines?

I always had good luck with Cherry Bomb (and its other colors) and found it to be a very good climb line, especially for the price. Comparing it side-by-side with the Yale 11.7 ropes, I couldn't tell any difference in the bounce, myself. There are other reasons, though, for loving the Yale lines besides elongation. They're just a very balanced rope, and work well with all climbing styles/techniques and gear... they have a looser cover than the Atlantic Braid ropes, flatten slightly more in mechanicals, but that's minor stuff for me and I got used to it.

Personally, I have recommended the Atlantic Braids 24-strand doublebraid climb lines to people because they're tough, well balanced, and cheaper than most others. I have made a lot of lanyards from them and used them for light rigging, and can't really say anything bad about them. I've also had very good luck with their Husky rigging ropes.

They're not the kind of rope you'd rave about, but they get the job done without breaking your budget, if you're on one. I usually am... because, you know... something shiny and new showed up.

What was the yellow with red tracer one that came out before cherry bomb and blue craze. Rocket something. They fuzzed pretty bad and became fat. Made good lanyards and ring/rings in those days. But that is like 8 years ago.

I have some traditional arborMaster Hawkeye from Samson for drt and some yale blue moon. I like the blue moon slightly more for drt. I do like the thick grip of the hawkeye tho. Close to a tie but I think the blue moon wins even tho it's slightly skinnier.

Honestly if you are accustomed to static which Yales 11.7s really are you would see it. I could not believe the stretch when I canopied anchored at 90' and sat in the rope and started ascending. Boing boing. That was it for me. A really shitty rope that causes so much drag in a wrench. It is not static by any means. I have asked others who agree. To me tuefelburger needs to redesign their ropes. Others love them as they like the bounce.
Swing, I don't want to get into a pissing match like a Daniel/Rico exchange but I really don't see how you can say Xstatic is not a static rope. I use it and the Yale 11.7's almost exclusively BECAUSE they are so static. I have 200 feet of Blue Moon and 150 feet of Xstatic that I carry on each job. I have 110 feet of Blue Moon and 120 feet of Tropical Ivy in my northern gear stash at my daughters in Pennsylvania. The elongation specs for each type rope is 1.4% at 10% ABS. The diffienece is Xstatic ABS or MBS whichever you want(Cant we get some standardization here please) is 7190 where the Yale 11.7's is 6500 pounds. At your weight, you should not make the Xstatic move at all. I do agree, the difference between the two is very subtle. For me, at my weight, I must consider the physics of rope configurations. I almost never use a base tie in point, especially with the Yale's. At 6500 ABS, and a base tie, I place approximately 650 to 700 pounds force at the TIP minimum. The added 690 pounds of ABS the Xstatic adds gives me a little more peace of mind. I do agree the jacket is not very nice on the hands, but I'm wearing gloves on ascent anyway because of a tendon rupture in my hand and the gloves allow me to grip just a bit better. A lot of people may ask why I am climbing at my size, but I've been doing this for over 45 years, so the muscle memory is there even if it is a bit slower these days. If you ever get some Calamine CE, let me know what you think of that one as it is listed at 2.2% elongation. Cheers;)

Oak you are a respected arb. Will never be a pissing anything. I had one hank from wespur of KM3max 2 of drenaline and the xstatic. I base all my fidings relative to my stable of 11.7s which is huge. I am only missing northern lights of never rans. Those tuefelberger ropes all acted weird and were all stretchy. When the xstatic which has nylon parallel core and a 48 strand cover did it I was so surprised. Sold it instantly. I am a kind of rope fanatic. Buy them all and usually sell any that are not yale 11.7. I am always looking for something different. I have known about CE calamine for years. Since my short stint in UK. Lived around tge corner from Honey Bros. Learned a lot about CE ropes. Hate them all. They had CE cougar. Geez.

All good bro. One of these days at Legends you and I will have to go head to head, but only if you add weights to equal my weight. Then it would be a true head to head.

  • I was on some Vega that Richard Mumford had down here for a rec climb. He loves the stuff. I wasn't on it long enough to form an opinion. Be nice to try for a while.

I think I found the right thread. I am looking at picking up some of that Yale Bifrost from WesSpur as well. Has any one used this. Im not digging the bouncy Tachyon that I picked up a few months ago. Ascending big cottonwoods is like climbing on a rubber band. How well does it work with a wrench? Oh, and don't be hating on the Cherry Bomb. I just ordered a 80' of it from Baileys the other day. Works great on small trees that I DRT/MRT. (and by the way, I do have a lanyard made out of Rocket.)

The bifrost and other versions of all poly kernmaster are great lines in the right scenario. Super low stretch, smooth jacket, great for knots. The caveat is how easily the jacket glazes. It’s thin and not super durable, when compared to Sterling HTP.
