spining in the footlock

Just thought I would get a few opinions on this.I seem to find myself spinning when working on my footlock.Although my times are improved the spining is getting worse.I started to notice it during the NJ comp last year and it has gotten worse since.Mark suggested that I may be leading to much with one foot .Any other thoughts?Jim

I was watching some students at a local college, and it appeard that anytime they started to footlock with the rope off plumb they crated a swing and then spun.

I bet the twist is already in the rope when you start and just unwinds as you footlock. I don't see how the footlocking action itself puts a twist in the rope but some climbing hitches do.

if your using a figure eight to come back down, chances are your going to get that twisting action on the way up.

What I do is set another rope near by and repell down on it rather then the rope I footlock up.

I, too, spin when footlocking. Counterclockwise, if I remember right. I know it doesn't have to do with spin in the rope, because it's always happened regardless of what rope I use, and I don't use a figure eight.

I tried figuring out the cause a while ago, but I sorta gave up and just kept climbin'!

Maybe it is the borealis effect. Do they spin the opposite direction south of the equator? Does the spin slow if you stick out appendages?/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
