Slight variation of Frescos anchorbridge system

Re: Slight variation of anchorbridge system

I like the idea of always trying to work with a climbing system that incorporates an instant descent mode as well. I can think of a few ways, but could you explain how you set up your SRT system incorporating an instant descent mode. Does it require the use of a second climbing line?

Thanks, Russell.

Re: Slight variation of anchorbridge system

Hi Russell

Now theres a question where a picture saves a thousand words!

I use a simple but ergonomically effective and safe Frog Walker system for 40ft plus ascents. This is secured at the base by taking a wrap and tying off with a special technique that i won't attempt at this time of night (The idea is a knotted rope won't cause problems, and no extra faffing with slings and devices). I always have a work line also, so this can be used as back up with a rocker and allows the access line to stay put. The characteristics I want from a Frog ascent line are slightly different from a work line.

I also use a RAD that can be dead ended on the ground or in the tree, because of the permanent attachment to the grigri.

I hope that helps.

Mahk - I expected the yes' from you.

Re: Slight variation of anchorbridge system

So a thought just occured to me. I bet if you put a prussic knot with a foot sling on the rope opposite that attached to you along with an anchorbridge, this set up would be REALLY sweet. May take an extra second compaired to just foot locking, but would make the climb very easy. Probally open the door to some people who may otherwise not be able to climb as well.
Has anyone tried this or would be willing to try it out and let me know.

Re: Slight variation of anchorbridge system

I Did a huge pine removal with the set up today....I just cant say enough for it....I even left it in long mode for most of the climb...
As for the pics i posted about the tweaks I made to the set up....Well I had some serious problems that, and wanted to let anyone who may have read that post know about it. I was using the pulley with two eyes and eliminating the long leg....well...In a big Euc the other day....as I was FLYING up hand over hand...I went to rest..Holy crap my knot was being pushed down by a krab that was just too close to the knot. It scared the hell outa me. I had to reach up and set the knot by hand to get it to stop. No telling how far it could have made me fall....
Anyways....here is the new one and I have not had any problems at all....
I use both legs...just as Rich designed them to be used.
I do however use the two eyed pulley and instead of the dog clip I use another non locking krab
Its wonderful....and safe.
Anyways, I am very sorry for posting pics of somthing that wanst right...dangerous even. Doh!

Re: Slight variation of anchorbridge system

I saw Rich use the anchorbridge at the NewEngland TCC, awesome concept, thanks Rich!

My slight variation is to use a microscender in place of the spliced end with the grommet. It accomplishes two things: 1. it doesn't rely on a seperate piece of cordage, the climbing line is hooked to the saddle as it normally would be. 2. the microscender allows for adjustability of the pulley placement.

If you dont own a microscender a piece of accessory cord tied into a loop and prussiced onto the line will have the same effect.

Re: Slight variation of anchorbridge system

hey arbo101 i had the same problem with that set up after i read it, i just experienced it two days ago, i figured it was because i didnt set my vt right but after reading what you have to say im switching back to my fixed side pulley, that always worked, and i was definatly scared, i pulled myself all the way up because i was working on the outskirts from the trunk, i was tired as hell but lucky enough to be here writing about it
