Thanks. While certainly not an expert here is something I do. 1st...what ever the first length is, add a fid length but do not count it. Make all other marks as per standards. I use the extra long tail for the sole purpose of creating a super long taper. I wrap it tight with tape and then use a smaller tube fid. The smaller fid feeds easier and the longer tail seems to also feed easily while having less snags on the way out. Then of course when your done you just cut it back to the standard length and bury it. Hopefully that helps some, I have all the other fids but I actually like the tubes the best.
 
Typically I do 4 or 5 pairs of the core strands every 5 pairs, just like the cover (it's usually the same strand count, you'll have to pay attention to that, as long as every pair you cut out is as long as the cut to the end you're good). Also, you don't want to taper past the marks that you made previously on the core when burying the cover. Hope this makes sense, it's late :-). Message me if you have any other questions.
 
Keep in mind the extra fid length.....I taper from the end back about 1 & 1/4 fids. Remember you are cutting that extra fid off later and it is there to just make it life easier.
 
Can someone tell me why I can't post a pic? I've be trying all day. I've reduced the picture down to a little more than 16 pixels and it still won't let me post.
 
I used to have the toughest time with posting photos. What error message are you getting? File size too large?
 
Nothing happens. I watch a load bar go for a min. and nothing happens. I used an app to reduce the picture that very low resolution and it is a JPEG.
