Thanks. While certainly not an expert here is something I do. 1st...what ever the first length is, add a fid length but do not count it. Make all other marks as per standards. I use the extra long tail for the sole purpose of creating a super long taper. I wrap it tight with tape and then use a smaller tube fid. The smaller fid feeds easier and the longer tail seems to also feed easily while having less snags on the way out. Then of course when your done you just cut it back to the standard length and bury it. Hopefully that helps some, I have all the other fids but I actually like the tubes the best.
