Show off them splices

Matt those splices look professional. Nice job.

Speaking of snaps, have any of you tried the Rock Exotica SwivaEye? Ridiculously expensive but looks sweet. Considering how many times a day we snap and unsnap our lanyard, that's one location where I'm willing to spend a little money.

My first splice 16 strand I did a locking wipped stich but can't find the photo on my phone, used a machanics hose pick, and a home made wire fid and a pair of duck bill pliers, The last bury I used my bench vice with both feet against the bench, it was a bugger to get it to come through.

So have many of you guys spliced any 8 mil ocean lately? I tried splicing some up a few days ago and......lets just say the cover is still taped to my wire fid going thru the crossover section...it's super tight. I had to put it down to try and finish up another day...any tips?

i've never tried it. a second attempt with a clear head always works out better for me though.

have you tried any dish soap for lubrication or some mechanical advantage? i'm just shooting in the dark here so if someone has better ideas feel free to add suggestions.

Pull it back out, and trim the ends, a gradual taper and smooth core is the way to do it.

When you've pulled the core out and marked it up towards the "alpine" butterfly end, mark up 4 inches or so from the end, the core is braided from bunches of 4 strands. If you remove 2 strands from the 4" mark and then rotate the core and repeat a couple of times towards the end you still keep the profile of the core and its is unbelievable how much easier it is to run home. I'll be splicing some tomorrow morning if this still doesn't make sense so I'll try to get some photos
