Shoulder

treewhisperer,

Glad you had a full recovery. How long was your recovery period, and what type of work could you do during the recovery process? I have been staring at a shoulder rebuild for some time and just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet due to the potential of the long recovery period. As it sits now the shoulder works decently enough, but has a bad tendency to come out of socket whenever I do an irregular motion, such as tying my boot laces!!

Thanks for any info you could share on this.

My recovery went pretty quick. I planned a vacation to see family in maine after the surgery (2002), and spent a lot of time swimming (they live on a lake there) during my stay , about week or so. I think the motion of swimming was good therapy.
As far as my actual physical therapy time, I dont exactly remember, maybe a month or so. I did some sales during this period, then light duty climbing and pruning. I dont know what it is, but I tend to heal quickly. It seems the more you do to work it and move around after surgery helps, rather than complete immobility.

Jon,
Thanks for the info. I like the idea of swimming for therapy. If you don't mind my asking, was your shoulder a rotater cuff repair?

just got my report...12/26 surgery...complete retracted tear of superspanatis and infraspanatis.....Surgeon is one of the best(he also did my broken arm) so its going to be a while w/ no climbing for me..ill have to learn to type and mouzse left handed.

Good for you. I had one in may, could do some climbing 3 months later, but my senes wasn´t sown. It is very important to train with a good physiotherapist afterwards.

I have an excellant PT that I worked with to recxover from my previous injury. It makes a big difference. I am currently lifting a little more to strenghten other muscles to compensate.

Its all done.7 holes total and 3 1/2 hours later.home same day. I got to watch it on the tv while they worked.it was weird watching them hammer a hole in the arm bone and then the screws. Now its just wait and see until PT.I am getting more time with my daughter so its worth it.

no video yet but ill post pics of the shoulder withe holes. the screws hold the tendons and stuff together while it heals since they were completely torn and retracted.

Here is a couple of pics day after. Its amazing what can be done through little holes.
