Setting up services in jobber

Just started my 30 day trial of jobber and am setting up the services stuff.

Currently in quickbooks I have Pruning as a service then I have several subtypes under that such as Crown Cleaning, Vista, Raising, Thinning, etcetera.

How have y'all gone about setting up the various types of pruning in Jobber?

unfortunately they don't have sub categories yet but as you write an estimate they will autofill as you type. I have asked them to make a category function and they said they are working on it.

The categories is something I talked about in the other thread so here I will add how others are using Jobber to accomplish that.

Under your account setting -> Company Settings there is a section for Services & Products. There it will show any items that you have added before that Jobber has remembered.

You can also add new services and name them as if they were in categories. So for example:
Pruning - Vista
Pruning - Raising
Those will remember the default price and be added to jobs and invoices as needed.

I am curious to hear how others might be doing this as it might guide how we build the categorie functionality into Jobber.

Jobber

Categories is probably sourced from users having previous accounting software experience.

We had 6 main income categories in QB which are in the "Item" list. For speed of quotation assembly, sub-items with pre-filled text were created. This prevented the P&L from having 30+ income categories; Restricted the volume of typing required for service items on a quote; and provided some ability to drill into the income item gategories for reporting purposes. (i.e. - Item: Removals, subitem: stump grinding; in reporting we can review sales in stump grinding)

Jobber users who wish to sync with QB need to nail their item list in QB for the sync, otherwise Jobber will be polluted with unecessary fluff. Anomalies can occur with a sync in the QB direction as well.

Note - payments have to be manually allocated to invoices in QB after a sync.
