Salary for climbers

20-25 for a good climber/operator with arborist certificaiton. Line trimming credentials bump that up for sure. Unless you are as good as holly thinks he is, than I'd ask 25 and settle for 22/3. Benefits are definitely a bonus, and MAKE SURE they pay ot!

As little as they can. I wouldn't put too much weight into the 27 and up range. Keep it real, and you'll most likly see a range of 20 to 25 to start with talk of ways to see more.

Lmao, you don't see me BS the guy and saying 30 an hour do you? Cuase I know that in real life your luck to make 25 with bennies.

By the way it's not thinking, it's proven time an again at each and ever employer.

In order to compare apples to apples, why don't we get some ratios. What is a climber foreman paid as a percentage of your hourly rate?

20%? 25%? 30%?

Only in this manner can you truly compare wages.

40-50k is doing pretty good in Kentucky...but that would suck in NY.

Also..business owners esp. should consider labor as a percentage of gross income.

Very good point KyLimb. I would say most fall in the 5-10% range, higher end guys seeing crummy bennie pacs, and hardly any bonus stuff. With sales reps pulling 5-20% depending on overages.

i would say overall that pay in this industry is low. compared to the other trades we are at the bottom end. that being said im not in this business just for the money. to love what you do is definately worth the crappy pay rates. however it would be nice to make closer to 30 per hour. around here you can work for one of the bigger companies for around 25/ hour with the bennies or you can freelance for 40 an hour and no bennies. ive done both and on a good day prefer to freelance, but you never know what kind of idiot is going to be running your ropes. for now ill take the 25 and the bennies.

I took a pay cut to move back to KY from Northern CA but I definitely have more money in my pocket now. My mortgage here is about 1/3 what my rent was. Where you are located can make a huge difference, pay rates should rise with cost of living, not always the case.
