Yup, Intuitively we either pull harder, get a higher tip in the tree or try to get to a higher point that we can pull from. All to generate more torque by increasing the length of the lever arm or the force perpendicular to the point of rotation.
Attaching the rope at the base has absolutely no effect on the amount of torque we generate.
