Rope Wrench Pulleys

Saw a picture over on Arbtalk where a guy uses a Pinto pulley with the RW instead of a Hitch Climber pulley or other micro pulley. Says it is much better.

Just wondering if anyone here has tried it?

Adrian does. I like to use the hitchclimber so i have the option of the extra clip-ins.

I also use a 2 DMM ultra O biner system, like my DRT rig.

Same reason why I would use a Hitchclimber

Can you put in a link? I'd like to see that.

Thats cool, I wonder if that guy got the idea from my post on page two of "Rope Wrench Ruminations". I use the same set-up and thought I came up with it. I hope i have contributed after using so much of the info on this site!

it is also harder to advance it with an ascender tether with the pinto, for some reason it tends better with the hitchclimber for me. The idea has promise, but needs some more tweaking.

I would like to use a pinto instead of the HC. I like the way it sits better and that its smaller however I cant figure out where I would clip my chest harness to if the rw is opposite me for when i am ascending. Also another thing that keeps me away from switching to the pinto is the need for spiced hitch cord. I seem to go through mine pretty quick and like buying the cord bulk. I also dont seem to have much time to learn to splice.

do you keep the cord on the outside of the pulley then? I do like when it sits inside the pulley just because it stays tidy but I guess it would be fine out too. Where do you clip in to ascend?

that is what i am having trouble with, if it is short ascents just manually advancing the rope wrench is how I have been doing it. As far as the hitch cord i have been using it on the outside of the pinto.

I've ran it a few times like Cary said. Just in some small Pin Oaks, so no real need to clip into anything to ascend or whatever. I just got my second Pinto in today to start playing around with it, I really like the idea and think it has promise. I like the fact that the RW faces away from you, less likely to bash something in with it while tending slack. Also like the sleek look to the Pinto.

Calling for rain tomorrow, so hopefully I'll get time to play around with different set ups and tweak some things to see how it works out. As far as ascents, I don't see it giving me too much trouble. I rock the DMM thimble set up on mine. The way I see it, if I hook into a handle ascender it should work just fine, and if I want to clip my lanyard into it, I could clip directly to the biner with the pinto on it, or the thimble. The only thing there is the RW would twist to face u, which I don't see being a big deal during ascent. With a correct tether length, nothing should bind up.

this is how i ran it for a couple days. it was ok, thought the hitch climber was nicer.

i need to get the thimble and set that up. With the hitchclimber i would just use my lanyard and clip into the pulley, but I think i need to upgrade. I found a shorter tether with the pinto is nice and not to binding.
