Rope Wrench Pulleys

So I've been running my RW set up with a Pinto for a few days now, gotten a few climbs in, nothing too hard, so still has a ways to go, but so far I'm digging it. Took a little while to get used too, but I like it. I run the same set up as Waldo has pictured, just a different hitch cord. One reason I like it a lot is girthing the RW to the becket on the Pinto. It eliminates an extra carabiner from the equation, makes for a sleeker rig, and it helps avoid dropping the pinto, since I just clip in the RW to the rope and it holds the pinto right there.

As for ascents, I've just been advancing it manually, mostly due to the fact I haven't had a long ascent. I tried it a bit using the thimble and the lanyard over the shoulder or an upper ascender, and it seems to work just fine, just haven't tried it in a long ascent.

So, is anyone still running the pinto pulley set up? I set it up and looking at it my only concern is the rope running so close to the eye splice of the hitch cord. Obviously we have rope on rope contact - but, as limited as it is in this area - is there a concern? Here is a picture that may help what I am describing.

I don't think there is. I have thought about the same thing but it would be in all the same places if it was in Doubled rope technique which it can be used for.

I wouldn't be concerned about the contact at all, only time I'd give it thought would be using a hitch cord like 8mm Bee Line or HRC, where the eye splices are the exposed core. The core doesn't have the same heat resistance, but it's still fairly high. Just something to keep an eye on. But with cords like Ocean Polyster, which you're using, that concern is null and void.

What pulley are most of you using for SRT?

I got a hithclimber at KYTCC and I like it better for the SRT than I do with DdRT. I have only seen the Pinto in pictures, so I can't really appreciate the difference.
I also like that I can tether the RW to the top of the Hitchclimber to free my hands up. Anything that makes it easier to mess around with gloves on is helpful here for 4 months of the year.

I find the beeline extremely touchy (as it sometimes it won't grab at all in some configurations), but I don't know if it's the SRT, the Hitchclimber or the match with the Tachyon rope that makes it so. I think I might go back to Tenex.

Tenex has been working great for me, both the single-end carrier and the TEC. Super reliable in terms of grabbing and releasing every time. I climb slow and steady, so I have never had an issue burning it up...

If you like Tenex, try Ice Tail. Also, for what it's worth, I like the HC pulley for the Wrench in that my the tether doesn't obstruct my hands from tending the hitch. I've also installed one of Surveyor's bushings in the adjustable pin position with a 3/8" removable pin in the top and things are really cookin' now.

Well.. in the end it happened. I did chip a tooth on the rope wrench. Tiny piece but enough to make me switch to a pinto pulley and move the wrench away from me. I look forward to the change and losing a the biner in the process. Should be a lot more streamlined.

i prefer th HC if there is a big ascent to do but if not then i prefer the pinto for moving about within the tree for the above reason! ouch bro

It's all good. Barely noticeable and made the tooth very sharp. Will come in handy for when I'm biting into a steak.
I'm curious to figure out a system for long ascent where I don't have to advance to wrench by hand. We'll see. I expect having the wrench opposite me will only be a problem when I'm working down a trunk during a removal. I'm sure I'll find a way around it. But do let me know if you have any ideas.

Here is what I came up for both long and short ascents:

Works pretty well and uses minimal gear

Here is one of the setups that I ran for a little bit. I will go back to it when I get a custom length eye to eye with sewn eyes. I like the length that Cary uses with 24 inches

Would make this setup so much cleaner.
