Rope Wrench Feedback?

A pantin that works on fat lines is due.

Kevin,

Get out your copy of 'On Rope' and look at the grandpappy of the Pantin. A Gibbs ascender sewn into a stirrup would work on big rope.

Anyone still running a wooden one? I'm still using one I made out of a hammer handle-- have made at least 3 out of hammer handles, the one I have now I love. Anyone else partial to wooden ones they've used pre-production model?

Also, Kevin, if you are out there, have you totally ruled out producing a wooden "collector's original" model? And when is projected mid-line attachable release?

Feedback-- my favorite tool. It has made climbing SRT so user friendly its ridiculous. It has made ease of moving between SRT and DdRT ridiculous, the mid-line version is going to make this attribute even more ridiculous.

If Mark C. is out there, being an icon in our industry, I wonder if you've tried one yet? Also be interested to hear if one makes it into the ITCC later this month.

Great tool, can't wait to watch it in our industry for the next few years.

Rumor has it that Dan Kraus, world champion 2005, is a rope wrencher from time to time. The ZK 1 is much more user friendly than any of the wood ones that I used to make. They are also harder to make than the metal ones. The ZK 1 is also easily moded to be midline attachable. A 5/8th one inch ball lock quick release pin to replace the front bushing. A pin is in the 20-25 dollar range. The smaller diameter bushing of the pin changes the feel but not dramatically. To date I find it the best solution to midline attacheability. Big question mark is that it is not triple acting to open. The wrench I used in the cat video is midline attachable modded. Two 13 mm wrenches and pliers to hold the bushing is all that is required for the mod.

Seems unlikely at this point that the wrench will fly at itcc 2011. They are working on a set of guidelines for SRT use in the comps.

Loving my rope wrench! Dead wooded a black chery two days ago. It was nice to be able to work the tree from the bottom up.

Got a sick removal that i'm going to use the wrench on later this week.

can't wait to not have to climb all the way up just to come down to again.

i'll let you all know how it goes

Help me make up my mind fellas...I have decided on buying a 1/2 static rope but cannot figure out which to get...The choices are New England's KM3 http://www.neropes.com/product.aspx?mid=AD5A655BCA5BFA2A6B340F8F4F462C5D&lid=1&pid=77 Samson's Static Poly http://www.sherrilltree.com/Professional-Gear/Static-Kernmantle_2/Static-Polyester-Rope or Sterling's HTP http://www.sterlingrope.com/product/458878/P130/_/12"_HTP The KM3 sure does have a high elongation,Any thoughts on that? Anybody ever used any of these in 1/2".

Thanks Steve

I just wanted to thanks Kevin for inventing the revolutionary tree climbing tool the zk1 singing rope wrench. This tool has cut my climbing time in Half making me climb a lot faster and safer and more productive! After finishing a job that I thought was going to take me all day we finished in a couple of hours and what did me and the guys do to celebrate? We hit up the skate park for the rest of the day!

Here's a couple pics from this morning

yeah, 150' is too short for a lot of parts in the US but is enough here in central Texas. The only time I use all 200' of km3 is when I do more than one tree in a row, moving from canopy to canopy.
Goodaking, nice pictures and glad to see you are enjoying the rope wrench too. It's the bomb, isnt it.

Goodaking, thats the best review for any product i've ever read I reckon!

A tool that allows you to finish your job hours early so you can spend the rest of your time doing what you love. Brilliant!

There are some rave reviews here for the wrench.

Wanting to see Kevins invention & the idea of SRT workclimbing take off in Australia like it is in the US i have an idea how you can be part of the Rope Wrench Revolution!

I would love some of you guys to leave some genuine feedback on the reviews tab for the rope wrench here Rope Wrench Feedback or if thats to much to ask, permission to use your reviews would be cool too.

If this request is out of line feel free to slap me back into place

I just got back from my first paying job! My friend needed to run some new antennae wires for his Ham radio and I needed to clear branches from 3 trees(maples). I trunk wrapped and snaked the rocket line through all 3 trees and was really appreciating the rope wrench. All my branches fell where I planned and a safe evolution was completed. The only gripe was my Stihl 192 wasn't easy to start once it was warm. The Rope Wrench rocks! Thanks Kevin

The rope wrench works very well Ddrt as well. I prefer to ascend SRT then either continue to work SRT or leave the rope wrench on and install a friction saver and go Ddrt. You barely need a friction hitch with the rope wrench. The RW takes all most all of the heat away from the hitch as well.

I just got in from doing a day of dead wooding a Huge Honey Locust. Got my real first chance of doing some straight assents and figured out how to make it work easer for myself. To ascend I grab above the wrench pull up hold my body weight for a sec and clear the slack with my Pantine and set the wrench and hitch, works sick! Very simple! I’m buying another wrench for the guys at work to get used to. It’s amazing how much time this thing saves you and when you clear your line at the end of the day no snags. I had my sterling htp redirected all over this tree and was wondering how retrieval would be. I came down smooth no problem and no re climbing over limbs to prevent snagging and unneeded friction.
Another awesome day at work!

This is one of the biggest advantages of SRT over DdRT. Having the same friction all of the time with no added friction at redi's saves soooo much energy and frustration.
