Rope Wrench Feedback?

Wish I'd had the wrench today, not arrived yet. Biggest tree was about 170 ft D,Fir, deadwooding. 100 to the first limb and then lots of branches there after. Thing with these tall trees is that I just daren't work down from a frictionsaver in the top because I've had several stuck already on these types of and its a long way to go back and unsnag it. So you end up with lots of friction with through the crotch and then having the double line re-ding around so many limbs either side, plus the full weight of the entire tail hanging below. 4 more big ones thursday, hope its here by then, am curious to see just how much difference this thing is going to make to my day.

I added a DMM thimble to my tether, will make an awesome quick tie in point to tend the hitch and wrench, plus you can clip a biner in there to hold stuff while working :)

when you get a chance, could you post a pic or 2? I got the tether with the thimble, and am having a hard time finding a good setup for tending the RW. I use a strap over my shoulder holding it up (I have tried attaching it to the thimble, tether below wrench, the hitch climber), but nothing is working very well :(

Thanks

I've had more time and the wrench and have learned a few things...

The shorter the hitch, the better, especially in situations like goodaking and steve were refering to (climbing up through a crotch you dropped through).

The quick release is key. I used to have a small screw link to connect the tether to the top hole of the HC pulley, but now I can girth the wrench onto the HC pulley and then connect it to the climbing line.

Footlocking single line is great if you can find a good way to advance the hitch. The other day I improvised a chest harness made up of 3 loop runners and a carabiner. I actually made it to hang my saw from (behind me instead of on the saddle), but it works nicely for the wrench. I can post a photo if anyone would like. The Petzl Voltige chest harness was also discussed elsewhere, which might be a good option as well.

Bigger hands like bigger rope...mine seem to like 1/2" (12+ mm) ESPECIALLY when footlocking single line and not sitting down on the hitch between locks.

I've got the Petzl Voltige and the RW in now (thanks Luke) and will be playing around this winter in my basement with different setups for chest harnesses, the Croll, my TreeFlex saddle and the RW.

Sucks that I can't climb till spring with my elbow surgery, but I have plenty of time to play with gear.

Gibson does'nt that thimble come on the tether that treestuff sells. The tether is 5 dollars, while the DMM thimble is 18 dollars. Clarify this as I looked at your set-up and I think the thimble on the tether is what you are referring to. Paul.

Seeing as you guys are working out the kinks of the set-up, I will order the stuff after xmas. Thanks guys for all the good feedback. Paul.

Gibson. One recommendation I would give you for your set up is to shorten up on your WR tether. I find a shorter tether is much quicker when engaging the WR. Less rope running through the hitch before it engages.
On my setup there is an inch to 2 inches of space between the hitch and the wrench. To me it just means you don't lose as much progression while engaging the wrench.
Excellent videos. A real learning tool.

I had it shorter, but I like to be able to fit my hand above the hitch as in DRT, and i did shorten it by about 1.5" after I got home :)
