rope runner

1/4" Walnut and 3-5 gauge Aluminum ( 3/16"- 15/64"). No milling yet, Aluminum is Water cut and Walnut is Laser cut. Radii will be done as in a second operation by me or the end user if they prefer. At some point maybe cnc milled but this would at least maybe get something out there for you guys to play with and tweak.

That just took the wind out of my sails, that's what I just started taking measurements for! Well, leaves me time to splice more ropes, during the cold white months ahead!
Thanks John, for the video. Are some of these tools already out and about, or is this a prototype? Curious.

I made a few, but they do take some time putting together. oceans got one, treebing got one, treestuff got one, and I have one. I had originally developed it for the Rope Wrench, but when the Rope Runner came out with the longer pins, Oceans sent me his Runners to see if I could adapt it to work for them too. The slic key works really well as is, but it's apparently too expensive to mass produce. We are working on a new design to the same idea, might make it way more affordable for everyone!

I was at the TCI Expo and Eric was using the Slic Key on the Rope Runner while presenting SRT at the demo tree. Nice to see it in use!

Brass surely seems like the proper material to try and duplicate the key. I've got to at least try! Now, I'm on a mission!
Thanks again, John! Had a blast in Pittsburg as well! Can't wait for next years show...

Here is an earlier video I did, but it is kind of ridiculous with the soundtrack. My kids were making a lot of noise in the background so I deleted all the audio and added some stock sound effects back in. ;)

Nice job on the slic-key John. I'll keep am eye on treestuff for one of these. Monkeylove,I would love to get one of those in Walnut. Keep us updated please.

It has a really hard release, I figured it would eventually destroy some joint in my shoulder/arm over many repetitions. Maybe I should futz with it some more to try and improve.
Moss, I know what a handy guy you are. I have used the hump (that aluminum piece) for, well, since about a week after the prototype came out. It does make it smooth.
Something easy to try...
Cut a small piece of hardwood, the width of the body with a vary gradual radius, not rising more than about 1/4". Now file a longitudinal grove so the rope will follow and get more friction. Glue it to the body with epoxy.
I think you will find that the wood gets some glaze and polish and does not wear as much as you would think, adds the needed friction to keep the bird smooth and saves the wear on the body. Plus it's cheap, sacrificial and tree guys have an unlimited supply of wood.

...and I got to see it!!! Indeed, very slick, Slic Key for the Slic pins!
