rope runner

"I take my runner on and off all the time. its not as hard as people make it out to be. It takes a bit longer, and is more cumbersome on and off than my BDB or my akimbo. but in the scheme of the day it means the time difference in about a minute. I do it in a way so there is no drop hazard. It would be an issue if you were constantly taking it on and off, going from line to line, but I come across the need once or twice during a big tree. its no big deal and there is no need to be shy of doing it."

I respond:

Wow, great post, Kevin! Thanks so much for chiming in with your honest and thoughtful opinion.

I appreciate your assessment of how much effort it takes to remove and replace the Rope Runner on a line, from the perspective of the man who invented the device and who is likely to be the most experienced user out there.

Your calming words of encouragement are greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Yup, $50 ea, if you buy a pair of them! So, I bought 2 of them. Damn, they are really nice, too ! That'll probably make you even more unhappy ! Now I have a backup. They're actually less when you apply your "online" discount. Just sayin'.

Yeah, and if you are a (destitute/ low caste) Canadian, take a guess how much it will cost to get a pair of them shipped to my door! Just sayin'
hint: no free shipping to Canada, and our dollar (loonie) is a dead duck.

Its thd Transporter Steve, they're aluminum Caritools, that open/close one handed, and have a locking mechanism. Also, Pelorus, I can truly understand the $$ issue. Maybe TreeStuff needs to open a Canadian Hub. Now there's a business that would go gangbuster for our Northern Arborists. Maybe a franchise opportunity for the guys to think about? Now, back to the RR, just bought my 3rd one, the Royal Blue Version! Me so Happy ! I'm gonna need another pair of blanks from Frank! I may try aluminum on this setup. Going to get some 3/8" flat stock tomorrow. I'm foaming @ the mouth for my new All Orange RignWrench! Be here by friday, I hope? Didn't you get one of them Steve? I thought I read a post that you got one?

So what you're saying, is Frost backs don't receive any discounts, north of the border? Thats just wrong, by all means. Or was that a derogatory comment directed at me, personally?

Didn't think so, especially in this forum, but I've been reading quite aa few other threads on another forums, and the illl will towards fellow climbers & saw guys have gotten really disturbing commentary about fellow brethren and a few women aimed at one another is just disgusting. I'm actuaily reducing a lot of my involwement, due to these few instigators that continually change their screen names, but continue to spew the same trash at fellow members. I really feel bad for the "moderatirs", that have to follow some of these threads, to weed them out. Nonetheless, I havs a question regarding aluminum, does it have gdading? i.e. Lid steel, there's mild, tool grade, hardened, then a whole different ball game for stainless. I'm curious whether there are soft or harder grades of aluminum, to make RR bird blanks, & teethers similar to the stainless "quickie", I just can't justify a $60 RR tether, so i want to purchase some flat & round stock for bird blanks & tethers, any ideas from others that have tackled these jssues? I'd appreciate any input frim the pros, & ofheds that havd attempted what I'm thinking of doing. I did get some D6000 Clear aluminum adhesive, since the 2sided tape doesn't appear to hold up? Thanks gang!

Thanks to everyone for not only the information that I've received but overall great conversations that this site has to offer, from all walks of life. With one, maybe several goals, information, educational, comradery, & a hint of ribbing ! I'm very glad that this site exists. I've met some great peeps here. For example, I could have taken a crash course in aluminum metallurgy but all I had to do is ask, my question was received in layman's terms. That's what makes it so great. I hope everyone has the same experience !

Totally agree. Well said. I've been on some other forums but this one is by far the best. Friendly and informative answers. I don't post very often, but I read what you guys are posting on a daily basis. I certainly have learned a lot of you all. Hopefully I can contribute more in the future.

This place is for professionals. I don't mean just pay. I mean the professional attitudes and seriousness about the craft. I haven't been on other forums but I remember guys from other forums on here and it was a lot less friendly. Lots of egos. I'm in some groups on Facebook but rarely post because on Facebook.....everyone's an expert. Lots of kids with over inflated self images. Thanks for being what you are Treebuzzers

Well, I finally got the Royal Blue RR, & Steve didnt buy it out from under everyone!

Now I'm gonna start making a pair of grips for the "Bird" out of aluminum! I'll have pics by the weekend !
