rope runner

I'm a rec climber, who climbs a handful of times a month and I bought a rope runner. So if that doesn't say something about not spending my money wisely...

I'd rather spend my money for a finished product. The cost is negotiable as it depends on time taken. But if I have to go buy the tools necessary to do it then I'm already at the price of paying for it most likely.

the latest ones have the flat washers and they can be purchased individually. This is pretty new so they are not on the website yet. they will be very cheap. I have not found a tending system that I like as much as the stock washer on the side bent ,or unbent. I actually like that it orients the runner to the side a little. but there are different ways to tend.

Deevo, I can't wait to hear how you get on with it. One thing specifically I'd like to hear you comment about, once you get the chance to use it for a bit, is how comfortable you feel about taking the Rope Runner off of the the rope and putting it back on again while in the tree, in order to do a redirect.

I'd like to hear how you handle avoiding the dropping of components during the transition. I know Mr. Bingham posted a video that shows his technique for hanging onto all of the pieces/parts, while he was standing on the ground.

I just wanted to hear back from someone who is a new user of the device, to see how well this aspect of using the Rope Runner goes for them.

Thanks in advance for any answers you choose to provide in this thread in the coming days.

I hope you have a ball with your Rope Runner, and I'd also love to hear about any bombing you do out of trees, once you get comfortable with the device.

Thanks for your time.

Tim

The on off of the runner is the only thing holding me back from waiting for a mechanical that is effortless and drop proof. I know a lot of people say once you practice it's not so bad but it still seems cumbersome.

It's cumbersome and annoying, but the runner is so smooth! I've learned to never take it off the rope while climbing and slide it on the non spliced end of my lines so I don't have to take it apart.

For 350 bucks I'll stick to my wrench until someone figures out how to combine the smoothness of the runner and the on off of the bull dog bone

Tim go to Dans site http://www.climbingarborist.com/srt_series.php
Look at the one where he uses this https://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?category_id=348&item=1890
I got it and played around with it today, did both types of anchors and I really liked the sling for the canopy anchor! No need to take the rope runner apart just advance the sling works great! I went up and down about 15 times to get the hang of it and be comfortable descending. I have to say I love my zig zag for ddrt but the runner is amazingly smooth ascending !

It was -11 and windy out this morning but I braved the elements !

Am ok with being the last non-SRT guy on the planet, or mebbe just the Buzz. A future Akimbo could change that. Until then, Petzl's ZZ gets the bills paid.
James the 201t itcc champ crushed his masters climb in Georgia, footlock up, DdRT down. Made me feel like SRT was slow and dumb... [emoji39]

Ok this was my second time ascending I didn't know my wife was video taping. I only went to those branches then down for the first few tries to get used to it then went higher up the tree the more comfortable I got! Dave you'll love this ! I thought the zig zag rocked but this is even better !

Now let's not get carried away here! :rayos:
Ok sorry Dave ! I was just still excited about it after using it I guess ! Next time we see each other I'll bring it along for you to try ! But promise me you won't drive away with it afterwards !!! After trying the bulldog bone and tree fongus version which were nice, the RR just seems to have a perfect balance of everything ! If the wind dies down I might go for another climb on a bigger tree soon!
