rope runner

Hey Steve, I ran my finger down the back plate and it's as smooth as a baby's bottom, I even put a straight edge along the plate and there's no daylight showing through, so I'd call that virtually "new". The bollards are still a bit rough, they're not really smooth like my 2nd RR.

And Yes, I broke down and bought a couple quickies, now I'm gonna try my best to make a few aluminum ones this weekend out of the round and flat stock that I picked up after work. I'm hoping that I can flatten the round stock before shaping, otherwise I'll have to use flat stock and remove some of the center(curved) material. Pics, & layout to follow by Monday.

Something I did notice, the Bird spring seems to be a bit stiffer than the Gold series, I Guess that's a question for Kevin to answer! Just pressing down on both series, I feel a little difference between the 2 of them.

That is true but the gold can be wound up.

Potential issue be aware of your gear!!!!!

Switched out the bridge ring on my mcrs for the new dmm swivel and small shackle. THe biner attachment on the dmm has a rubber grommet to secure the biner and it does an excellent job I might add. So here are the events. Climbing works great, all is how it should be. Tie in with flip line. Slack climbing line. Now with a bridge ring everything slacks up at the attachment and flops over, finds its own center of gravity and everything stays neat so to speak. With the swivel attachment the biner stays immobile and the runner finds its own relaxation position as well as causes the swivel to reorient based on the movement of the runner. The results are a cross loaded biner inside the runner causing a potential lock up situation. There were a few times yesterday I actually had to work it a little to un jam the biner from the runner attachment. I'll try to post a video today if I have time. It's not an epic fail, just be aware and catch the issue before it catches you.

Sounds like one more rubber grommet on the Runner biner might help?

I often go for inverting the biner after connecting, but perhaps you can get away with leaving it upright. That way you wouldn't have to remove the grommet every time you want to disconnect from the Runner.

Systems check is vital, though.

Thanks Steve. I am looking at options right now myself. I might just try the Hyrda, I can always glue or pin the pulley. I really prefer some friction on my bridge. All I want is a small rigging plate on a swiveling bridge ring.

IDK, what about this? Too much linkage? I am not sure if it would even fit... Also way more expensive than the Hydra. However, I have a Hydra on my bridge and I have become used to the "less friction" of the pulley. The only concern with the rigging plate/multi attachments on a swivel device is that it can orient the swivel off its axis, so it doesn't turn as sweet. So, IDK.o_O

Who makes that universal joint ! ?
It is one of DMM's new offerings.

The DMM Nexus is a compact, hot-forged swivel designed for use at junctions where torsion needs management. A high-quality internal bearing ensures smooth and reliable rotation, while the textile-friendly clip in points are perfect for carabiners or textile elements. The Nexus range has two shackles on either ends which can be removed to allow connections to fixed loops such as wire strops, rigging plates, and harness bridges.

That combo and those concerns are exactly why I think I will try the Hydra first Steve. I might get used to less friction, I only gave the last pulley a day before I pulled it off. I will have to give this one a longer trial. Thanks.

Hey ML, the Hydra works better than I could have ever thought possible! There's no wear or friction on my bridge, and it gives me a 3 point rubber grommeted attachment point. I've been running mine for almost a year and there's no sign of stress on my bridge or (rope), at all. I still change out the bridge every winter, regardless. Just for piece of mind, i.e. UV degradation, or load bearing stress. It keeps my Biners from moving or side loading, always! You'll be very happy with it, if you try it out. Safe Climbing...
