rockin 4 minute vid

I know I don't have much room to talk here, since I have limited experience, but from what I've seen of your videos, you get by with a lot of luck, a lot of it thanks to that skid steer of yours. What you're doing is by far not cutting edge stuff, its things that guys like Roger or Blinky or Gerry or Burnham have been doing for years. Its guys like that that earn respect, because you don't see them flaunting it all around, saying how bad@$$ they are(alright, maybe Blinky does a little bit

) where as you like to go and talk crap about other guys when they try to critique your work. That is why you'll have such a hard time earning respect here and at other forums. A case of you're always right and others are always wrong.

Yeah I'm not sure I belong in that group (actually, I'm 100% sure I don't) but YOU rock Adrian.

RangerDanger for President!

Why are you guys wasting your time here when you should be over at my Pine Hanger thread making comments about the future of my tree. Now get your azzes over there....NOW!
Damned kids.....grumble grumble

Sorry, but I have no use for bore cutting a back leaner.....I want to being applying gradual pressure all the way over......

I'll look for the video of the ones I did years ago, where the target was primaries....if it went the wrong way, that is......We used the GRCS to gradually stand it up, then over it went.

Piece o' cake....

Take your bore cuts and shove em....except head leaners...

IMO working power makes tree work a completely different game.. Done my share of winching trees back. With nothing more than a rope come-a-long...

Not many people around here that will let you take a skid steer in their yard.. Gotta do it the old fashioned way.

My thoughts exactly.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and what their comfort levels are. I for one would not hang out under that tree while chasing the backcut... but, each to their own. thats why this is a neat forum, everyone has their own style.
Now, whats a head leaner?

a head leaner is a tree that is leaning in the direction you want it to go (more or less), but excessively. depending on the type of tree and other variables, that could be 15 degrees or 60 degrees. the concern is that when cut with a notch and backcut, the tree will begin to fall so rapidly that the sawyer will not be able to advance the backcut and release the tension fast enough to avoid uncontrollable vertical splitting. that vertical splitting and loss of control is called a "barberchair".

thanks for the explanation. Guess I didn't know what to call them... really thats the only time you bore cut??? when I am in the woods I find myself chasing the backcut especially on the wee pecker poles. But I use bore cuts more then I dont (on the ground)... logging and doing tree work. I find that bore cutting in the urban situation is really important to my decision making. It makes me go through steps. It allows me to stop and think if I need to. It allows me time to ensure safe perimeter controls. I simply cannot believe that people are snickering at bore cuts!
Bore cuts keep me safe! do what you want...
peace

jamin,
I went through 2 levels of Game of logging when I was in vocational school (high school), then went through them again up to level 3 @ paul smiths...
Game of logging is neat. gave me a great introduction into what can be done safely with a saw and wedges. I have adapted those methods to my own personal style... G.O.L. was my first chainsaw experience when I was 17, I have been using those techniques since then. I have seen a lot of other cutting styles, but I think having my roots in G.O.L.really pushed me in a great direction.
