Redwoods vandalized by burl thieves

That’s disappointing! I watched a bow hunting video one time that was shot in Africa. Some militarized game wardens were in camp and they were all talking with cameras rolling when shots rang out. They look around at one another and in unison say, “poachers”, screen goes dark for a second. Comes back on and they briefly mention six or seven individuals that are no more. I don’t need that but, I wish we had the guts as a society to hold ourselves responsible for the cost, the loss for purposeful or gross negligent acts.

Lets see, 1500 year old tree, preserved in a park for all to see. Cost of said loss over next 2000 years. Plus now a hazardous situation, cost of removal with zero damage to other important trees etc.. All your future earnings go to the park system, or your chained to a bicycle generator in local prison, which one?

Is there anyone in the area of this poaching that would be interested in and willing to set up remote ‘photo traps’? It worked for National Geographic to catch film of a never before videoed Snow Leopard, could work for this. Heck just a bunch of signage around the area requesting donations for more cameras to set up “more” traps could bring an end to it.

I've been seeing more burl cutting going on in Prairie Creek in the last couple of years. The persons responsible are local tweeker's trying to make a quick buck. They are familiar with the area and park operations, but they're sloppy and they will get caught.

It's terrible and I hope they spend big jail time for their dirty deeds.
