Protos

The muffs also hold the helmet in place extremely well. Enough that I find myself leaving them engaged more often than not. It can be warm in the summer, and some of my in-tamable eyebrow hairs deliver sweat into the inside of my glasses, but it's all probably gonna happen anyway and totally worth it.

When you say that you "leave them engaged more often than not", do you mean that you leave them covering your ears? If you find that this practice seems to make the helmet fit or behave better, it would be another good argument for paying to have the Sena communication system installed prior to purchase. Thanks for your post.

It is easy to push the muffs up out the way but that's not the unique selling point.
The USP is the fact that the muffs are concealed so they can not get caught by twigs and small branches when you're moving through a tight tree.

Additionally:
1: Protos helmet has a higher safety rating than any other Arb helmet.
2: The visor sits against the shell and twigs don't get caught on it.
3: Due to the oversized shape of the wide rim and the design of the cradle, ventilation is better than all other helmets on the market. This is because air only flows up under the helmet and out the top vents.
Unlike other helmets where airflow is trying to move in and out of the vents at the same time. The continual headband under a snug helmet rim allows almost no air to pass.

It was the ventilation reasons that sold the helmet to me. Money well spent.

Oldmilltreecare, thanks for this outstanding post! Most of what you wrote I'd never heard before, but especially the part about the way air circulates under the helmet. Thanks again!

And it's for this very reason that Sena sets are on my shopping list.
The only reason I don't have it yet is because one of my groundies likes to chat. She never stops!
Lol!

I forget the screen is down and try to drink water. I look like Ted Striker from the movie 'Airplane' with his drinking problem.

I'd say the Protos is one of the better purchases I've made. Overall comfortable, snag free, and seemingly rugged so far. I could wear the earmuffs and screen all day and forget they're on. Unless someone comes out with something comparable, I will purchase another when the time comes.

I think I want to get the modular eye shield that sits inside the helmet. For now it's safety glasses and the screen. I'm digging both.
I tried to spit with a visor down. As you can imagine it didn't make it to the ground. :inocente:

So I bit the bullet and paid $30 shipping for mine. Free helmet. Got free Distels and a 200' prism rope from treestuff. Another guy got a free protos with a sena installed. Even trade. Got the helmet. Have worn it around the house but tomorrow is the true test. Other than getting used to the look of it, I love it. I got a clear and mesh visor and 2 sets of the clear safety glasses. I will use the mesh visor. Not likely to use the clear one and the extra integrated safety glasses. They are clear. I did order the tinted and also the yellow to play around with. Does anybody need the clear visor or a set of the clear glasses. Time to pay it forward. Free to a good home, just cover shipping. Let me know.

Steve I'd love to try the clear visor.
Also, to any one interested, I have a pair of the orange integrated glasses, same offer. Anybody who wants them just cover shipping.
Damn, I woulda just traded. My yellows just shipped!! Oh well. Just send me your full name and address and i'll send the visor Friday morning. I'll let you know shipping. Probably less than $5
