Product Recall DMM Compact Swivel Units

Side note: I have a like new Sequoia SRT. Forget the size, but I have a 32" waist. Goes a bit in each direction from there. Willing to part with it for a song. Comes with shoulder harness. Looks brand new. Used maybe twice or three times. Felt like I was sitting in a Farari when I should have been in a Ford. About three years old and stored indoors. $120. and it's yours. I will mail it to you, then you can send me a check after you get it. I'm a trusting fellow.
I’d take you up on that offer if you’re serious. I don’t mind swivels in my life support. As others have said it makes it nice for not getting twisted when running more than one system.65B33C86-508D-411C-A1FE-425AB0FE48F5.jpeg

Love my Uni - I also carry it as a backup (on the harness it's right over there by the kitchen sink . . . ) when on sappy, pitchy trees and I have a hitch based system binding up. If I get troubles I switch over to the Uni and voila am back to work again. Stock one is not the greatest for traipsing out on branches and returning - I've never found mine to tend really well on the return trip. But it cleans up slick as whistle.
For the sake of completeness, If you haven't seen these they are maybe worth watching on the Uni:
Some of Tom Hoffman's stuff
Some of Richard Mumford's stuff
And a Uni tether video

I love the uni and had some great years climbing with it but it has some serious downsides imo. Unless you have the barrel attachment you need to wrap the rope around the top for srt which is a pain in the ass. Also, the uni wears out pretty quick which you can mitigate by upping your rope size as it wears but eventually it needs to be rebuilt or replaced both of which are expensive options. the bdb requires no extras for easy srt and wears out way slower plus the wearable components are way cheaper/easier to replace. my 2 cents :)

a good tether setup with a ropeman definitely improves the uni experience imo

Looks like they'll be replacing the recalled units with new, re-tooled units. Here's a screenshot of the email I just received:

I had a question when I saw they were going to replace rather than repair. Just in case anyone else was wondering...

"Good morning Dave,

Yes, your current shackles will fit the replacement Swivels."

Kind regards

What? I have sent three emails with no response. I have been asking for a swap out, wanting to just get a couple of Pinto pulleys, which are less expensive than the swivels. They keep ignoring my emails it seems, and I keep getting the updates like everyone else. If they're manufacturing new equipment, it should be an easy yes. I explained to them that I am not just ceasing use of their swivels, but all swivels for the foreseeable future. They did send a quick response back in November assuring me that I would get an answer to my question...

Yeah I wish they had just offered people more than 1 option, I would have taken just a credit towards other DMM gear, even $25 per swivel towards something else would be worth more to me than partially disassembling a life-safety piece of gear and then waiting months for it to come back, and then hoping I can still find the shackles around my place, just to re-assemble it, and then not use it because I have moved on with my life.......

I asked about that option too- a DMM credit- and no response on that end either. Like you said Muggs, after all this time, I have moved on with my life. I can hardly imagine getting brand new hardware, and then just shelving it indefinitely. I have a bad feeling that Treebay is about to be inundated with swivels, rendering them kind of valueless.

At the risk of pissing this lady off... I have been talking with her over the course of this recall and have had about a dozen chats back and forth with her. She has answered each of my emails within 24 hours each time. And I don't know if she will be of help with your concerns, or requests, but at least she has been very helpful with my questions.
Make a note however. I did manage to piss her off one time when I complained why I couldn't ship directly to her rather than ship to a company that makes silk screen tee shirts here in the U.S., which is where you actually shipped your stuff to if you lived in the U.S.
That said, if you want to chat with her, this is Sophia Hallworth email address, but please do not say I sent you.

I also get it to a point. You have to remember that they are dealing with literally millions of units. To have even a 10th of those people wanting an (exchange; money back; credit; substitute; on and on) would be overwhelming in an attempt to deal with.
I also get your point.
