Problem With Body Thrusting

Re: TinMan,

Take a nice afternoon and set your line, tie the hitch you like, and just get the technique down. Footwear is a big issue, some grip better than others, large heals will cause you to wrap closer to your toe. Plus every hitch is a little different and react different to different ropes, and climber sizes. Don't get frustrated, not every technique works for every climber. If you have learned a technique and it's not fun, it's not for you maybe, just try another. With great thanks to the other climbing sports we have been getting a great influx of new gear and techniques, I do not miss the old days of rope throwing and shinnying to the top.So in conclusion my .02 is to just have as much fun as you can, and watch for the advanced climbers giving classes in your area. Most are on this site and thier classes are very hands on.

I think your saddle will be fine with either thrusting OR footlocking

I disagree. The buttstrap will be a hindrance when trying to pick your feet up when footlocking. People naturally spread their legs a bit and the butt strap interferes with this. See the cover of Sherrill's fall/winter 2004 catalogue.

...though IMO, individual straps are better.

IMO too. /forum/images/graemlins/icon14.gif

Re: TinMan,

Yeah, from what I can tell already, the butt strap isn't gonna work too well.
It seems to constrict my movement, and make my weight shift back too far to reach the footloop easily and advance it.
