Take a nice afternoon and set your line, tie the hitch you like, and just get the technique down. Footwear is a big issue, some grip better than others, large heals will cause you to wrap closer to your toe. Plus every hitch is a little different and react different to different ropes,and climber sizes. Don't get frustrated,not every technique works for every climber. If you have learned a technique and it's not fun, it's not for you maybe, just try another. With great thanks to the other climbing sports we have been getting a great influx of new gear and techniques, I do not miss the old days of rope throwing and shinnying to the top.So in conclusion my .02 is to just have as much fun as you can, and watch for the advanced climbers giving classes in your area.Most are on this site and thier classes are very hands on.
