Please help identify this tree!

Hi! We just built a home and the landscapers planted this tree around our house and are having trouble identifying. We have been told elms? Or white oaks? Location is Pittsburgh, PA

Kinda looks like chestnut oak to me.

Anyone know if they need to be more mature before they produce acorns?

I’ll second that, those leaves look like Chestnut Oak. I can’t see the bark well enough to be sure, take a look at some pictures in Google and see if they match.

Thanks for responding so quickly! The thing that makes me think they are not chestnut oak is the leaves aren’t glossy at all. Here is a pic of bark

Looking at the newly planted trees in the background of one of your photos I want to offer three suggestions. 1. Buy this book https://wwv.isa-arbor.com/store/product/104. Seriously, order it today and read it the day it arrives. 2. Compare the best management practices against the way your trees have been installed. 3. Call the landscape installation contractor to come back out NOW and do the job properly and according to the ISA Tree Planting BMP.

new leaves on swamp white oak will have a super soft pubescence on the underside of the leaf. Not sure if those mentioned previously will have this
