Pete Donzelli Arborpod Video - An observation.

Sure thing, first off I have no idea how I survived guess the good lord was not done with me yet. I made a simple notch in the side tied the top through a block with a half hitch and a running bowline guys put a wrap or two around the bollard and I made the back cut. Upon making the back cut and the top going the tree broke under my feet sending me to the ground. I was about 40' up at the time of the fall. Again I have no idea how I fell. I used to have some pictures of the tree I am not sure where they went.

Did you break anything? What did you land on? Grass, pavement, garden beds? And do you still climb after that?
Break things yes Humurus bone in arm and the back of my elbow off and a bunch of ribs and gaffed my leg. Surgery to repair both elbow and arm actually 3 to repair my elbow. Thanks to help of the military (I was active duty at the time) I lost a lot of rotation in my wrist. For the most part you would never know anything had happened unless you see the scar.

I landed on damp grass prob part of why I am alive. Yes I still climb I just am more cautious and conscious about as beranek calls them "bad trees" also as maybe Peter was a bit mean and very picky about ground guys and how they run ropes. When I was off work for 6 was healing I read everything I could and watched everything I could. I watched the entire fundamentals of rigging series twice and read beraneks book twice and every forum 3 times that is how I found this one in fact. I love climbing more today than then.

No not at all, I worked for myself and Didn't figure there was much need for one. Also I knew prior it had been hit by lightning so I assumed that was the cause. Lesson learned for sure.

Magnum783, thanks so much for not flinching when it comes to sharing the details of your accident. Secondly, I'm really happy that you are still around to post on this forum as you are.

When I read what you've gone through in order to recover, and all of the study and hard work you've put in during that period and continuing on through to today, and I hear just how positive a person you are, only one phrase pops into my head.

"You are the man!"

Sincerely,

Tim
