yup, not my job, I was called in as a sub, and the owner prefers to do crane jobs with several climber. There were actually 3 of us in the big elm to start, me and another climber ran around setting 30 ft straps like mad, the owner came up to the bowl of the tree and did the cutting. The big elm was finished by 1100 or so and the smaller maple only took and additional hour, if that.
ive worked with one other climber many times using a crane but never two. I did feel that it really wasnt necesary for all 3 of us , but the job went really well and quickly, besides who am i to argue i am just a hired gun. /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Regarding the ladder, isnt it easier than gaffing ALL the way up. Id normally get a lift up on the hook, but not over the primaries. /forum/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Tod- id say the closest the cable came to the wires was right about 10 ft /forum/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
i too was suprised when i arrived to find that the plan was to crane over the wires. The road was closed for the day, the power company was supposed to come put blankets up apparently, but they never did, go figure /forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.
the trees would have been extremely difficuly any other way. im glad it all went as well as it did. The crane operator was also very good, it was obvious he has done many of tree jobs.
16,000 lbs is what I was told the butt of the elm weighed /forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
When I posted the pics, I knew this would get the 2 climbers subject going again /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
