with long laterals i usually use longer slings. I have the crane take me out to where i want to atach the sliing thet I lanyard in and atach the sling. Then i have the operator raise the ball until the sling is almost snug and move the boom as close to the trunk as possible then i use that as my tie in point and return to where i want to make the cut.

Here's the tree we split. Taller poplar up on hill was rigged and a smaller oak to the right of tree had a rope in it. Crashed all the wood up the hill till we could drop trunk. Hot and humid as a mother f... I got good excersise running up and down that ivy hill as rope man... couldn't wait to get up in the tree.

He just wanted me there to see what would happen if a piece took off somehow and smashed that renovated mill thing down there.

Those trees are taller than they appear. Especially the 2 we rigged out of.

That looks like a nice tree, too bad they wanted/needed to remove it. I guess their utility bills were too low, eh?

It was a vigorous, healthy tree. But you know cottonwood...
kids bedroom was right beneath it. The bummer about the tree was it could have been flopped with a couple of side limbs removed, but homeowner didnt want us to bend any grass blades /forum/images/graemlins/flag_bs.gif
