Owner/operators...balancing time ???

One of the most important steps I made in managing the time I spend in my tree company was not working on the weekends.

Weekends have always been a prime time for giving estimates because people are often home but estimates can easily eat up a whole weekend.

There is a lot more to life than work!

Work like hell during the week......and then take the weekends off. You will be better for it.

As the starter of this post.

If you all want to squabble back and forth like old women, and personally attack one another. Use the PM. If your replying to one person on a subject the the post wasnt created for ... use the PM. Y destroy a good post, and make things messy for those viewing the post for good info.

It just common curtesy.

I started this post to answer questions I am dealing with. And felt it would be a question alot of people either went through, or will at some time. I am at the point in my company, that I am almost to busy for myself and 1-2 other guys. And was trying to gahter info on what I need to do to balance time. To see how you all grew out of a owner operator ... into a just a owner (and a sometimes operator). At what time you take that leap and double your crew and equipment. And how do you manage to have a personal life through it all. Which I am finding that most of us don't :-)

For all of you that did stay on subject. I thank you very much (and for those that did give valueable info then got distracted ...I do thank you for the info).

Oh, one last thing. You all with that use your wife to free up time and to help balancing it all. That is cheating lol. But I would do the same if I could ... single here.

ClimbHighTree - I find that I didn't trust anyone but myself to do the paperwork. Now i'm thinking it's the only way forwards as it's distracting me from what i do best and thats the hands on work !

The business part of doing business can be a real chore. It would drive me nuts. When I was in the position of doing the "paper work shuffle" I always had a good secretary, worth her weight in gold.
