Notch JetStep

The thing I love most about the Notch Jet Step is that the cams have ridges instead of conical points to grab the rope, so now I don't have my foot ascender picking the fibers of my ropes. I also love how easy it is to get the rope on and off, an advantage I did not think would be as useful as it turned out to be. What I DON'T like, however, is how easily it comes off the rope when I don't want it to do so. I can go for a long time without any trouble with it, and then I run into times when it comes off several times in a short climb and aggravates me greatly. As long as I go straight up and the rope is dangling straight down below me, then it works great, but if the end of my rope is being pulled to one side by a limb below me, then it will come off easily. I got so tired of that happening, that I had a metal worker fashion another fair lead to place below the ascender, and that has solved the problem while, as I'm sure you can guess, causing another one. I have never had a problem with the upper fair lead catching on anything, but the added-on lower one, will do that often. It tripped me flat on my face one time when it got caught in the laces of the other boot. Now, I always tuck those laces inside the boot to prevent that from happening. In spite of that, I still go to that ascender first.

Shame on you Rico, you didn't have your mask on. At least I couldn't see one
I honestly didn't think I needed it... I know for a fact that this tree has been practicing some serious social distancing since earlier January... Unlike our current president, it was well aware that we were not going to escape the wrath of the Covid....Redwoods are smart like that...

For good measure I also scrubbed the entire tree down with a mixture of Aloe, Everclear, some Dr Bronner's hand soap, a few drops of 4 thieves oil, and for the Pièce de résistance, a little billygoat semen... Nuff said...

I'll bet this thing would be amazing on a knee ascender.....

I'm proud of you then for being so conscientious about your health and safety of others.

When it kicks out for me, I just tilt my foot so that the ascender is facing upward, and step upward again. It pulls the rope between the cams again. After a while it doesn’t take much effort to reset.

I tried this, definitely need a lower fairlead for it to work. Otherwise, it ascends like a dream.

I missed this place. Now there are dudes climbing with their wangs out, and collecting strange stuff for sanitizing. I don't know why I haven't made the time for a while. Its great to be around again fellas. I was looking at the jet step. I am just too cheap to pull the trigger. Besides, my work has changed from large cleanout deadwood jobs. I will miss them days.
