New climber safety.

I have a great hard working groundsman that has recently started to climb. He asked a good question today in regards to safety and PPE. Is there a top for climbers that provides chain saw protection?

The best chain saw protection is awareness. Awareness of what you are cutting and what's nearby. Also being aware of the feel and sound of the saw itself. I've saved many a chain and maybe an injury or two simply by being aware of subtle changes in the sound or feel of the saw while cutting.

We went over all of that. For his piece of mind with so many things to concider and be aware of, he was asking about a top/shirt.

Google- chainsaw protective clothing

Husky makes one with protection on the shoulders and upper chest. The bottom and back was mesh. There are jackets as well.

Any dealer should be able to get it for you.

Thank you for the responces. I never thought of one for myself, so I guess the "new" climber opened my eyes to something I took for granted.

I agree with your point about knowing when and what is happening by listening to your saw and the sounds or feedback of the saw.this is only gained by experience. I am happy to hear of a groundman / Arborist who is thinking about not only meeting his ppe needs but taking them to the next level.
Nice avatar I figure you rotated the picture.
On a safety note I am aware that you are not wearing safely glasses and you are use a chainsaw above shoulder height.
Work safe :)

I have the mesh screen down on my hardhat. Yes the pic is rotated, no I'm not cutting above shoulder height.

Last I checked forestry helmet style helmets with mesh visors are not rated to ANSI Z87.1 for eye protection. Per z133, section 3.4
I am not trying to start a fight , but just trying to elevate the standards in the instusty. We need to self police ourselves

I like the look of the kask helmets with visor. Gives you No excuse for forgetting or not using eye protection. I am too hard on my safety glasses so I'm going to stick with my $2 glasses until I can trust myself not to scratch the visor.
