New ART rope guide?

At the Ohio competition with Mark and Todd there, I heard mention of a new rope guide coming out with a couple of changes. I was wondering if anyone knew when they were going to be out or if anyone.... Mark.. cough cough... could put up some pictures of it since I was told he's already got his hands on one.

There's the Ropeguide Primus:

And the Ropeguide Basic:

These are not yet available in the US anywhere yet, though some retailers are "working on it." One could theoretically buy one from Germany. They are available at the freeworker website.

The Primus is 304 Euros, which today is $475
The Basic is 221 Euros, which today is $345

Yeah, you could make that for quite cheap. However, that pulley alone is like $125, and the retrieval snap on the end is like $40.

It is worth what it costs considering the components, but yeah- you could make a similar setup for a LOT less.

i dont own a rope guide, but im guessing, just by looking at the pictures posted, that the retrieval snap isnt load bearing at all, it looks like a long, no rated loop of cordage is used to attach the retrieval snap to the prusik that actually holds the pulley

if its not intended to hold a substantial amount of weight, then this should be rather easy to duplicate

how are these set from the ground?

Is that just as easily retreivable? It looks like the pulley would have a little trouble jumping through the eye splice. What do others think?

Hey derrick. I think a couple good tugs and she should come right out, that pulley looks very streamlined and difficult to catch an edge.

The pulley is pretty but damn is it expensive. You can buy a rigging block for that price...

Re: New ART rope guide?

Hi Guys ,A flaw that has been experienced with the the new ropeguide is if the eye splice manages to hop over the back side of that black ring the whole system becomes very hard to retreive......

So far, I have never heard of one being set from the ground...

This is by far the greatest (besides the folding throw cube bag) tool I have added to my gear. I have the original and second generation, which were MUCH less then either one of these new ones... The one improvement I am seeing that may warrant a new one is the use of the cocoon pulley. Many times I have my pulley get jammed between the trunk and ring when I go to retrieve it. The rounded profile of the new pulley looks like it will just fall out with no effort.

If the black ring was set in a nice tight eye splice would that happen?

Re: New ART rope guide?

The black plastic ring is set up so that it cradles the pulley and allows the splice to slip over the pulley so that the rope guide can be retreived from the ground.

I get it.

You would not be able to get the device out of the tree... nor would you be able to set it.

Re: New ART rope guide?

Also would this work well on spars?

Why not just make the black ring big enough that the pulley can pull through. Have a tight splice around a large "thimble" type ring that the concoon pulley can slip right through.

Re: New ART rope guide?

One of the advantages of this rope guide over the previous models is that the splice is less likely to flip and get stuck in a crotch than the steel ring that is on the previous models.

Re: New ART rope guide?

the retriever on the rope guide basic is this just attached to the prussic?
and also does anyone know if the cam one is setup so it loosen off the cam so you can chock it off and still retrieve it easier?
