My new crane finally arrived! :-)

Nice crane!

Do you do tree work only with that crane?

If that crane was infostructure in the company that i worked for, I would be so proud to work for that company!

Nice work!!

cameron, like your new crane, all the best. i'm pretty sure that cable is both a2b and length indicating. you can check by manually pulling out a few feet of cable, the boom length value should change on the screen. be mindful of the cable LOL. tom.

I was told by the tech it is only for the atb, but I will give the wire a tug next time I'm out there. Our internal wire on our 50 ton does serve as both atb and boom length.

The angle will vary depending on which boom length we use. There are 56 lengths in the computer you can choose from. It all depends on what radius and heights we will be working at.

Here is the product page for the 3180. You can download the charts and range from there if you like. Challenger 3180

Pride (nee Ego) makes for poor business decisions. I used to have a lot of pride when depreciating assets (ne liabilities) were acquired.

It feels good to get the shiny stuff, but remember the final goal - profit. One of my mentors said "when you buy a monster you have to feed it". Just make sure your making 30% or more on the capital required to have the "monster". Otherwise youre simply buying a paycheque/salary/income and would be better off allocating that capital elsewhere.

'Tis a nice crane - I hope it bears great profit for you Cameron.

No problem there, crane was out making picks in the dark tonight. Guys at an apartment complex dropped a tree on the side of the building instead of into the woods. Crane is going out every day this week. Hope to do that all the time.

Um, wow.

Are you in driveway there or on the lawn? Where do you carry all that plywood? Do you use any alturnamats? Could either of your other cranes have done this job? If yes, I guess the Trex did it much faster.

That's a hella operation you have there, Cameron!

We are up on the lawn, we use 1 1/8in plywood doubled when we go up onto grass. This was especially a nice lawn and we didn't want to leave any impression. You wouldn't even know we were there when we left. No broken concrete either and it was only a year old, same as the home. This setup takes about 45 minutes with the four of us. We even had the outriggers on the paver walkway spread out on a full sheet of plyood with 6x6s on the top to spread out the load. All went well, client was happy.

We were working in the 90ft radius range. Would have been a no go for either cranes. Would have had to put the jib on the 50ton, but the wood would have exceeded the capacity for sure. Even with little nuggets.

Congrat's on the new crane Cameron.......glad it's working out for Ya! (would be interesting for you to keep tabs on these jobs for a year to see how the roadmaster you were looking at would've worked out :)

looks real nice, jason said you were very pleased with the unit. would be nice if this type machine was allowed in ct. by DOT. its a no-go at present. keep us informed. looks like set up was painless even with the slope on that lawn, with the chaissis leveling. what was that pic-5-6k?

I believe those cranes are allowed in CT but you need an overweight permit at $50 per destination before they can leave the yard.

not allowed with an annual permit plate (data on file at dot, call up with routing request and permit comes by fax almost immediately). requires an overweight permit with a delay in issuance of up to 48 hrs. by statue if they want to give it. not condusive for taxi crane work. joke of the matter is we can get travel permits for 90t truck crane on 4 axles with annual tags no problem-120,000# gross weight. go figure!

Exactly. That's why I figured Cameron's crane would be okay.
