My impressions of the MS 201T

BigWood thanks for the review as I'm in the market right now for a couple top handles. Reg said today, as well as my Stihl dealer, that the latest 201T is better. Any opinions on that?

I demoed the husky 540 xp today. I have mixed emotions. Probably need to break it in more. For little more than half the price of the stihl or husky the new echo might be calling my name.

My company just sent 3 brand new 201s back to the dealer to be torn all the way down to the crank to replace the case seal to stop the bar oil leak. Oh joy!
Now a bunch of the older 201s have a chain brake problem. Once the anti vibe gets a little broken in, the chain brake won't engage before the handle hits the oil tank.

I took a 200T into a Stihl dealer to have it fixed because it would not idle. They claimed to have fixed it but it wouldn't start again so I took it to them again. Several months go by and now they don't know where the saw is. I spoke to the owner about it and he is giving me $250 off a 201 even though a friend of mine paid $500 for the 200T used. Needless to say I am not very happy about my saw growing legs.

Sorry for the rant

Not sure why he thinks he's doing you a favor by reducing the price on a saw when they lost yours. I personally feel they owe you a running 200t. Just my 2 cents though.

Are you kidding me Breeze, no way...they should give you a new 201t...no questions asked and suck up their BS...then you need to mod the thing

That's pretty bunk, Treezy. I'd press for much more than $250. There's no way the dealer can argue that the saw was worth x amount due to how it may or may not have run. I would certainly feel really disenfranchised. How much business have you given them until this incident?

Treezy has a newborn in the house right now and is probably not getting much sleep. He might be taking a buzz break for the time being.

It's actually his newborn, right, and not someone else'...:D

You know, there are just more important things to worry about in life than a little gas drinking cutting device. Hope the kids are all right there, Breezy.

Hey guys, yeah TreeLogic is correct; not much sleep on my end. Plus my parents are visiting all the way from Oregon.

Well, it is disappointing that the owner did not give me a new saw after his employees stole it. The owner claims that he fired a couple of guys after he saw them on camera steeling stuff from his shop. He even claimed that they took one of his pickups.

I took my saw in to get work done on it last summer. They charged me $50 even though my saw still was not working, so I took it back in and the owner said they would look at it again. Now here is where I made the mistake of not getting a ticket to prove that my saw was being worked on. So the owner said that he believes me that they had my saw a second time but he would only take $250 of a new 201. I give this dealer plenty of business, so I am surprised at how they dealt with me. There are other Stihl dealers in my aria that I will check out, hopefully they won't steel (pun intended).

Sure miss that 200T, it was the "Harley Davidson" of the saw world.

201t hands down great saw. I use and abuse it. If you think it doesn't compare your being stubborn thats it. Just because its quiet and revs down doesn't mean that thing ain't ripping through that wood.

I just sold my last two well worked running 200ts.

Does anyone know what serial number for the 201 has all the updates? Need to buy one tomorrow.

We are having the oil leak issue as well.

I have had 3 201's. Bought the first after seeing Reg get a usable one by modding it. First 2 were stolen and the third I finally gave up on couple of weeks ago and gave it to the gm instead of this option.

David I must have got a very special one, did the Brad Snelling mods myself...then sold two 200t's cause this thing outcut both...it's over a year and just keeps eating wood...love that saw...but hey it's just one saw...the mods have made it an animal...
