moving a 250 year old live oak

$ 250 000 is alot of money, hope some one has looked into the cost of rerouting.
You could buy a huge parcel of land for that money and plant and maintain a forest for eternity.
They did something similar in Oakville and rerouted the road.
At the time it seemed a huge cost for one tree considering the efforts needed to save other green space, forest and farm land from being paved over and developed.

Tree is definitely an old noble soldier to stand and shade the hardship of a growing community for many many years.

Best of Luck!

What amazes me is the lack of foresight of planners, engineers and architects. I was living in Toronto when the campaign to save the oak in Oakville (no irony there) started. This was money raised privately to pay for the cost of redirecting the road. It could have been avoided by recognizing the importance of a heritage tree and engineering the roadway from the get go.

Richmond Hill managed to have a burr oak saved at the design phase. The ramps were designed to skirt the tree and the water table was maintained to ensure the tree survived. It stands at the virtual "gateway" to the town.

The more times companies are forced to spend big on protecting large trees maybe they'll think first about working around them.
