Looking for sources. Root loss due to topping

Done and will do... planting heavy at a 4:1 or 5:1 ratio. This is due to recent climatic conditions and issues with some iconic species. Not to mention signs of laminated root rot in the neighborhood.. kinda at a loss for suggested species. Cedar? Is hit or miss, hemlock is out, grand fir meh, Doug fir is out.. that’s about half or more of the natives...

Don’t forget that I am doing a culling plan on the chance if all the new plantings make it. But in time..
And don't forget understory shrubs and forbs!
Bare root plantings can go a long way

Where abouts in the Pnw is this ?

Black / Norway spruce tend to be good, cottonwoods are bulletproof (for overall tree failure, obvs limb failures) and good at rooting / managing storm water... Vine maples are good understory trees

Yeah grand firs / Doug firs.. ehhhh. Doug firs maybe depending on the soil type

There's no point planting western red cedars, they'll all be dead In no time

You mentioned laminated root rot .. I'm assuming you also have kretzch ? I've seen sycamore maples fair well on the north shore, amongst competing hemlocks / BLM and large Doug fir
