Looking for info on hitch cord.

I got an Icetail eye and eye, was never able to get it to release nicely for descent when I wanted, really grabby in my experience. I know a lady that really likes it and she’s maybe 110 lbs geared up, so maybe me being 200lbs geared up had something to do with it. Released for ascents fine on a VT but coming down was hard. I might play with it more, there’s probably a better hitch and rope combo for it. Tenex is similar, really grabby. Strong and crazy easy to splice though.

I only tried it on a climbing system, might be nice on a positioning lanyard.
Ok. Yeah im prob close to 200 geared up awsell. But ok ill just have to experiment ill be just tying my eyes. And i wont be using them to descend. Ill be making a hip prusik. And throwing a petzl open carabiner in the eyes and putting it on my 2 in 1 lanyard. With a simple prusik no pullies or nothing. The way you talk about it i feel it may work well for that. Unless its grabs to much and is hard to adjust.

Careful you don’t splice those two the same. Tenex and Icetail look like the same stuff, both 12 strand hollow braid, but Icetail is a class II splice and Tenex is a Class I, instructions for each are on Samson’s site I think.
Yeah i haven't got into splicing yet..i want to but i haven't looked into it yet. I figured i could tie my eyes? Idk i could be wrong. Ive never seen them in person yet

Those are both a great rope to start learning to splice on. Also underneath the jacket, Ultratech, Beeline or anything that uses naked eyes are a lot like them. Probably HRC too, I haven’t tried it yet.

Not much tools needed for Tenex. Tape, measuring tape, scissors, a sharpie marker, and a wire coat hanger if you want a wire fid. Depends on the project. If you gotta bury a tail, you’ll need a wire fid or normal fid. Probably. I’m new to splicing too, but I’m enjoying it.

Tried Icetail long time ago, way too grabby for me, I don't weigh much ;-)

Right..i get it about lasting. Thats not that important to me. Especially buying buy the foot no splices its cheap as fuck. I just heard of one type that really lasts and preformes i just cant remeber what it was. And ive heard of some cords i cant even find where to get em. Like the 1 you said 9.5 samson warpspeed ll.? Where do you get that?

It's a sailing line, Dyneema SK78 core, 24-strand polyester cover, I've been using it for my hitch cords a couple of years, really like it.

Oh wow ok..see i would have never thought to use something like sailing rope. I may have to really learn about these ropes. There properties and all that. So i can really know what im doing and what im talking about. As of right now idk shit. But id love to be able to make my own tight eyes for my climbing rope. I looked into that. That seems pretty hard. But making your eyes on hitch cord i think i could do that. Im going to try

Also i wanted to say thank you all for your imput. I have a better general sense of what i want to get for hitch cord. Ive got some on the way. I just have to look up what ill need to splice my eyes with hitch cord. Then ill order that. I think the samson kit pretty much covers it but gotta look into it more. Thank you all. Im new to this site. But grown to love it so fast with all these great people on here. You guys are some really good guys to take time outta your day to answer strangers questions. Stay safe out there everyone.

Hey guys.. looking for help and info on hitch cord. Ive seen some helpful threads and have a general idea but just looking for some advice.

Also whats the long lasting strong hitch cord? Something like technora or something i could be wrong.
But thanks looking forward to your imput.
Ive been using 8mm hrc and its been great. Doesnt glaze over and grabs really nice without locking up. Ive had the same one for months now.

The Samson fids aren’t as useful as a wire fid for some hitch cord splices, the tubular fids are too big, depends on the cord‘s construction.

Ok thanks brocky..like i said before ive seen you in alot of threads and i can tell you know what your talking about. I want to eventually learn to do tight eyes for my climbing rope. But i want to start with my hitch cord making eye to eyes watching videos i feel i can do that. So your thinking for know the main thing i should get is a wire fid? I was thinking i could make 1 from a coat hanger? But if not ill buy 1. My main thing that looks a little hard is the whipping i think its called. But if i watch a video step by step i think incan do it.

You can make a good wire fid out of steel rigging wire (the kind that they make shark leaders out of. I ordered like 20 ft for less than 10$ on amazon. Its really flexible but super strong. Also you can make regular fits out of knitting needles. They sell them in pretty much every size for less than 5$ then just cut the end off at an angle. Theyre made out of aluminum so they slide pretty smooth

Oh alright sweet man thanks..i thought something like that would work. I have alot to learn. But shit what else do we have to do in times like this. Figured this will give me something to do during the winter. Ill be getting laid off around Christmas. We will work here and there threwout the winter but i have a bit of down time

I’ve used long thin screwdrivers with a slot dremmeled, but recently tried some copper wire for small diameter splice and will be going that way forward, much easier to load. I need to find more suitable wire also.
Climb lines are easier, there is only one eye to do, with hitch cords the second one needs more figuring to make sure there is enough cover for the bury.

Ok thanks for your advice..i originally never Planned on even trying. Planned on tying double fisherman's. But im going to atleast try 1 see how it feels. I think its doable for me but could be wrong. But ive seen a few vids that show you step by step so i think i can. Just waiting for my hitch cord.
