liability insurance

It was as good as I could find. I went through an agent and financed it. I hope never to have to experience their customer service beyond renewal time.

Your agent doesn't help you with that? In regards to the service. My agent is the go between guy. He is professional and is cut throat. He does not let up. We do not have the same instance company as you, but nay issues that arise he takes care of. That makes it a treat for me.

What poor customer services have you experienced?
Im into cheap,I'm just contract climbing for the most part, regardless I'm the one performing the work and don't anticipate needing much more than the proof of coverage.

Thats just it, until you need more. I would do some re-search (as you are doing right now) and get a good policy. Don't base it too much on the cost. Keep that in mind, but look at what your getting in the policy. My GL rate is based on my overall income. So, it could be cheap for you if your not making 500K or more a year. If your making 30K-100K and your a one man show, I would image you could get a really good policy that covers you on a lot of stuff for a good price. I would really look into a good company that has a history of offering good services. If you happen to drop a tree on someones house it's nice to know you have an insurance company that will handle that for you and not one that will run the other way, or refuse to return your calls.

You are in the exact same position as me.

My agent has actually been dropping the ball on me. That I would like to change. If I can deal with the insurer come renewal time then I will. They'll likely refer me to another broker if there is one closer to me.
My coverage is for my contract climbing and solo work so it's minimal. What sucked was it doubled from the previous year because the carrier with the cheap rates got out of it.

Who is it that you currently have do you like them apart from the agency?

I'm lucky I guess. My agent is a great guy, always a same day call back, and tracks down the answers to any of my questions like a beagle on a rabbit. I've referred a couple arborists in my state to him, and they've both become satisfied, renewing clients.

If you're not happy with your agent, I'd think that a phone call to the main office of the underwriting company, letting them know the nature of the deficiencies, would get them into the picture. I'd imagine they'd either find you another agent to work with, or let the current one know that they're not happy being poorly represented.

The issue as I see it, is that most of the respondents here are either contract climbing or like me, working as a part time side gig. A couple of you are full blown companies which is a different situation. For those that are part time/contract finding someone to write the policy is a bitch. I just got a policy that I practically had to beg for even though I have 40 years in the industry with no claims or incidents. Really sucks to be small. Anyone want to start an insurance.company with me? Maybe a co op would work.
