I just wanted to say that I recently, and finally, figured out the proper way to tie a knut, thanks to the article in Arborist News by Mark Adams, I believe. And it's proving to be a pretty sweet hitch if I do say so! I like the way it grabs the host line so quickly after it has been advanced and loosened. No complaints outta me. I would recommend this hitch, but definitely low and slow if you don't have the proper method down, cause no matter how good those cool variations you discovered may look, they don't all hold!
I was camping for the Christmas break and I was just messing around, as you do, and I thought I would try to climb like I did when I was a kid by tying a loop into the end of my climbing line and just pulling myself up while standing in the loop. So I'm pulling and pulling and I get a short distance off the ground and all of a sudden my feet went up, since I seem to have gained a few kilos in the old upper body since I was six, and I freaked out and nearly took my feet out of the loop, thinking that would even the imbalance in weight and I nearly came down to the ground, a bit more quickly than I would have liked.
So, if it's possible to come away from this near miss with some type of lesson learned it would be that, we should all be thankful for the advancements we've made, as an industry and for such a cool way to share this knowledge with one another. I would have put this in the awakenings section if I were more than about a metre and a half off the ground. Maybe there should be a section for dumbass stories and this is where it might belong.
Anyway, have a happy New Year and please don't climb drunk this holiday season!
