Re: Are you a self-worshiping thief or a follower?

Ephesians 6:10-18
The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

2 timothy 4:3-5

3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.

Re: conflict suffering form

I do not think that people finding personal enlightenment through the teachings of someone like Eckhart Tolle qualifies as 'turning their ears away from the truth, turning aside to myths.' What if many of those people in that room have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior? Would Mr. Tolle's speech then be superfluous, unnecessary? Can multiple voices be part of a chorus of good?

Just more food for thought...

Re: conflict suffering form

What devout believer would not say (or write as David did) that "This is all you need?"

I am pretty sure that many other religions would say the same... "Follow this path to salvation, you need no other."

Eckhart Tolle was talking about the human ego being the driving force behind many of humanities' problems. I can't really disagree with that.

I think that where our philosophies part ways is that you believe that accepting Jesus is the only way to salvation, and I do not. I don't think I am misguided or confused, but many would say so based on the fact that I don't accept any particular religious doctrine.

Re: conflict suffering form

Very Good stuff.

I believe we are all trying to get to the same place and are taking different paths to get there. I threw Tolle in here because I felt some conflict and therefore suffering going on.
Some, (many, most) are identified with their method (form) of relating to the Devine.

It doesn't matter what form we choose to identify with as long as our hearts are open. If it's working for me then it really doesn't matter if others say I'm wrong.

I've really struggled with the whole "Jesus is the only way into the Kingdom of Heaven" line. But then I realized it was only language that was bugging me. Once I understood that Jesus represents LOVE, then it was easy. So now when I hear that line I translate it in my head to "Love is the only way to the Kingdom of Heaven".

Now if "Kingdom of Heaven" is bugging you.(which it may for some) One could equate it with Enlightenment.

Jesus is the only way into the Kingdom of Heaven.
Love is the only way to Enlightenment.

Jeff,
Massive Love vibe to you for laying yourself out there. I know you're just a big love'r by your avatar. Your gonna get some blowback from people that are still trying to figure it out. Don't take it personally. It's not about you.

Much Jesus to you All

Re:This really puts my life into perspective......

I Love This Thread. I think God is Honored by investigative thinking because He is Truth and if you seek real truth then God will revel Himself to you, in His time. The best thing to do is to try our hardest to not put God in a box.
Watch Louie this morning he explains it better than me. There are five parts, watch them if just for the information on space and biology. truth.

Re:This really puts my life into perspective......

If God created the universe then God created our world and thus created all of its inhabitants which have included Mohammed, Jesus, Moses, Roger Williams, and Brigham Young. Whose to say that God didn't want to give his people options, different paths up the mountain, all equal, just different? Why is Jesus the only way?

I think Jesus/Love is not a way but rather a level. Like between 10000 and 14000 ft up the mountain. Doesn't matter what path you're taking up the mountain. Your gonna go through that level one way or another. (or not for a while)

If you are familiar with the chakras then the heart chakra must be open for your love to flow. You are the mountain.

The only way. That's a tough line. It leaves us no options. I struggle with authority as much or more than the next person. I flip between love and rage multiple times a day. Best I can do is intend love, cause really at the end of the day it's a nicer way to roll.

Learning as I type.
Banjo, forget talking about Jesus. Talk about Love.

This thread is about Jesus and God. For me Jesus does not necessarily= love, if it does for you that's great. I love my wife, it has nothing to do with Jesus. Technically speaking she's Jewish anyway, a real deal matrilineal Jew.

OK, but you're still saying that no matter what you still have to go through Jesus. Why?

After some thought, ( i went and vacuumed the house ) , I have to agree with you Banjo. Whatever way gets you there is valid. Now to speak that in certain circles will likely cause much consternation as it goes against their way (form - see Jimmy's posts - cursed ? really ? wow )
Questioning Jesus in a Jesus loving forum will likely be contentious. I advise against it.

See you all at the top.

How am I questioning Jesus? I recognize the potential for conflict in a discussion like this but that's where being mature and not belittling someones beliefs come in.

Sorry about the big letters, I don't know what happened.

Do you believe that? It does imply that if I was Jewish, or Muslim I would be cursed doesn't it? Jimmy, I'm curious to know what you think, not what the bible says. Not to belittle the Bible in any way I assure you.
