Re: Are you a self-worshiping thief or a follower?

1 corithians 2:14-15
The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments

I feel that christians who quote chapter and verse are trying to deflect the negative aspects of the bible away from themselves onto others. Which is ironic considering it's meant to have the exact opposite effect on the reader. Being a true christian is about immense suffering as Jesus himself showed when he died on the cross.

The more you use the bible to deflect negative messages onto innocent people the less christian you become.

Read the bible for yourself and yourself alone dont use it as a weapon.

Re: Are you a self-worshiping thief or a follower?

If I said I was a lawyer, shouldn't I know the laws to help my clients?

Wouldn't it make sense that a Christian should know the Bible? After all, it is like a manual for living daily life. What's wrong with that?

I don't think quoting scripture should be seen as a weakness or "less-Christian" at all.

Rock on Jimmy!

Re: Are you a self-worshiping thief or a follower?

HEBREWS 4:12
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Re: Are you a self-worshiping thief or a follower?

1 CORINTHIANS 1:18-25
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise;
the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”[c]

20 Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.

Re: Are you a self-worshiping thief or a follower?

What do you guys think about Jews and Muslims? Are they OK in Gods eyes? Islam, Judaism, and Christianity are all Abrahamic religions after all.

Re: Are you a self-worshiping thief or a follower?

I respect Jimmy because he clearly reads the bible, unlike many christians. I believe he believes in what he is doing and has good intentions. Also, in person he does not proselytize and always seems sincere in his friendly interactions. I still don't appreciate having verses flung in my face, but this is an internet discussion board, so I can ignore what I don't like. my most common reaction to posts on these threads, if I bothered to reply, would be TLDNR.

Of course, the bible's verse mines are deep and varied. Someone who wanted to stir the pot could fling some pretty messed up s&$t right back, but why bother? Jimmy's all right with me. God, too, if he exists, for that matter--at least my concept of what that would be. Church, not so much.

I honestly have no idea. I rarely involve myself in theological conversations. Just for the record, I am not an atheist, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or anything of the like. As a human being who is interested in the greater good for all people, I support whatever it is that puts people on the path to being the best and kindest person they can be.

Re: Are you a self-worshiping thief or a follower?

Ive always appreciated Judaism as they have a stronger fortitude for analytical thought process and don't proselytize nearly as much as the other major religions. I don't care what you believe one way or the other. I do care when religion begins to dictate public policy. I STRONGLY believe in separation of church and state. We fought a war to prove these points. It deeply disturbs me to see conservative christian values as mainstream political movements. I myself am an Atheist and am tired of our political system being hijacked by the religious. Many of our founding fathers were agnostic and atheist.

Re: Are you a self-worshiping thief or a follower?

Knowing both of you (Jimmy and Ted), I am pretty sure you guys would get along very well, better than most. You both like a healthy discussion and bring it.

One of these days. :)

Re: Are you a self-worshiping thief or a follower?

I also Believe in the greater for all people and I believe that would be to know Jesus Christ as Lord and savior..But It really doesnt matter what I think or my opinion towards other people,This is what the bible says.

Luke 13
Repent or Perish

1 Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? 3 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. 4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
