ISA Code of Ethics

Yeah Noel its great for us and for our companys when we set ourselves apart.Maybe not so great for the industry, but at the end of the day we gotta take care of our priorities first.I dont know if the CAs are the problem. Most of the time the fellow CAs charge market value.Really the more I think about the guys who do less than professional work are not our problem either. Most people that hire that type of company are just going for cheap and we are probably way out of there price range.I like being one of the only a handful of companies in town that really trys to adhere to industry standards, its nice to set yourself apart.Thats a personal choice we have made to be professional not because we are afraid of consequences. Its just hard enough trying to run a buisness, family, household and trying to live a christian life,i dont need any more burdens placed on me by the ISA.I did notice to be a plumber or electrician(in texas) you have to obtain a license from the state not a private organization, then the state regulates and inforces its activities.Maybe in reality if a program like that started in arboriculture it would weed out a large portion of the competition just thru the diffuculty in obtaining it.

Licensed neuropsychologists have the power to analyze human brain anatomy, and prescribe and carry out treatments for brain issues.

Their org only asks whether licensees have been convicted of a felony.

I know dozens of handymen that do small electrical and plumbing jobs on the downlow, tree service would be just the same if it was under state mandate. I'm not trying to be negative about this, I am a realist. I know that there will ALWAYS be tree hacks out there, more government control is not the answer. We are already on our way to having our government control more than half of our gross domestic product, I'm for government butting out of just about everything.

Yeah your probably right Noel, but even more so I dont care for a private organiztion doing the same thing. When I was in Fayetteville Arkansas doing storm work you had to pass a city arborist exam and show proof of insurance.I thought it was a good idea but hard to inforce.

Regulations, licences and codes are all good ideas. It is the enforcement and monitoring of them that is the issue. There are hack electricians, plumbers, gasfitters and all manner of state licensed trades. Even lawyers and accountants have their hacks. The idea is to elevate the professional standards. The marketing for the organization to encourage those in the profession to join is gaining a competitive edge. All professional associations work this way.

When there are enough complaints from the public about arboriculture then the state will step in and form some type of license. For know it is done by the industry through the existing representative of the industry. It's ours to make it as we wish. But, that takes involvement.

Jimmy has a good point here. Hacks will always be there no matter what, for the simple fact that someone will always want to go cheap and doesn't care about the outcome only the cost, regulations or not, simple law of supply and demand. I have no certification yet,(just started the process) On that note I would not top a tree or perform improper or unsafe practices on any tree for money or not. When I am in doubt I study or go to the buzz

Seriously though, I never thought much of certification until now and realize it is a very important thing.
