Inverted gate HMS biner

Location

We need one of the good gear manufacture to make an inverted gate hms biner to use with the rope wrench and other odd ball applications.

I'm going to write a nice little e-mail and bomb all of the good ones. It will be going to DMM, ISC, CT, and Rock exotica. Am I missing any other good gear companies?

It would be pretty simple design change and just switch the mechanism upside down. Not sure how actual manufacturing would change. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Rock exotica is already upside down...

Waldo I think Jim means the whole gate is inverted 180 degrees, not how the locking mechanism opens up ( rock exotica is a pull down, which you are talking about, as opposed to a push up like petzl and ISC ).

Omega pacific makes the side swing gates, that could make it open farther. I dont understand the need though, can you explain?

Well the way I orient my biner once I'm all clipped in is to rotate the biner around so that when the gate opens its at the bottom not the top. That way then I need to move a TIP or do a rope trick i can just clip it off and on real quick. And the way the current biners open its the other way around. (I hope that make sense)

haha your right it would be a small opening. I guess the design part of it would be a bit more than just flipping them. Maybe sideways like the jake biner or something like that

I know exactly what you mean. I like the concept. Ovals do not have enough room on them. Hms biners are perfect but they are not easy on easy off. But if the gate was inverted...

I can see how this would be useful too. Ovals work ok for me though.

I'm not sure any manufacturer would sell enough of them to retool a manufacturing line to make them though. It's worth a shot though.. let us know how you make out with the email.

On the CT thing - I don't have any CT biners but I've got 3 of their rigging plates. 2 of them on my liger'd saddle. They're more than OK by me!

Ya it would be difficult but just slide one item at a time and it should work. You might be able to make a wider bend on the acute side to help counter that effect.

I was not sure how this would be useful either but as I was out today doing some traverses between 4 pine trees I realized...I need that? This is a photo of my V rig that I was using and wish I could have just clipped the small end of the carabiner without having to take the cord and pulley off of the carabiner.
Is this correct?

I agree...Oval biner should solve that issue for YoYo, though I get what Jman is referring to with the HMS. I think the issue with the HMS would be 2 fold. One, the gate wouldn't open very wide...Two, it would be very difficult to work certain hardware/software configurations around the tight bend radius of the bottom of the biner.

Got oval?

Sure, working around the small end of an HMS would be difficult but in this application we're wishing for the climbing system would be attached and basically just left in place...right??? If so, there would be little reason to move things on and off through the 'bottom' of the biner.

Just for a test run of this concept why don't some of you take your current setup and see how it would slide around the bottom of your current HMS biner. Each manufacturer has a bit different configuration, some flat, some radiused, some very small. If there is one that works better than others it might be a solution for that manufacturer to pursue.

I agree with Jman. When I used the fixed gate pully (like many people do) I hated pushing the gate of the HMS through the swivel on my bridge to disconnect. I could definately see the application for using that type of pully. I dont know though if you could get that pully around the narrow end of a HMS easily (petzl atleast).
When Oceans came up with his tether config, I went back to the HC and my ovals work fine.
