how many of you rep jesus at work?

praise god! our line of work can use prayer for sure. there are some hurting people out there that could use some love and respect for a change. btw just to clear things up. we dont pray when the clock starts nor at the job. it's usually at starbucks in the morning. once on the job i dont talk about god. it's not required to go to the coffee shop before work. i just give those who want to the option.

my goal for the future is to compete in the climbing competitions and i definitely wanna be viewed as a respectful guy at the comps. i honor you guys big time who are climbing competitors. i know not everyone in this industry is as nice or respectful as you guys but that doesn't mean we cant treat them with respect back. jesus did more with his actions then words.

Good post Joshua.I think to even take it a little further Jesus Backed up his words,he was crucified because of them.In fact He is the Word John 1:1 and John 1:14 and while your at it John 1:29

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes, its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.

glad you agree. putting religion aside for a second...there are alot of guys in our business that have it rough and i have learned from my uncle noah who is a landscaper here on maui who has it rough right now and chooses to take the negative route and drink. anyway, work was good 4 years ago and then all of a sudden no one can afford lawn services and everyone here bought their own lawn mowers. now all of the landscapers are scratching their heads with what can we do to stay busy. luckly though the tree care industry here is booming and alot of guys are now offering tree care as a part of their lawn company.
i decided i love climbing and tree care one day and bought a saddle and rope. talked to a guy in my church who is an arborist here and he gave me some training while i was doing groundy work for him until i was ready to do my own thing. a few coconut tree's and sketchy removals with minimum gear later.....here i am, all thanks to one persons compassion and kindness to take the time to teach me about arboriculture.

point is it sucks sometimes. and we all need to learn to not let lifes little hiccups make us a mean person to others becuasew the world needs love. regardless of your belief systems, one can show respect to better the world.

Wow what an encouragement! religion out, faith in Christ in ! bible thumping out, sharing our faith in. arguing creation vs. evolution out! Honest debate using creaton science in! God exists and is t work wether one believes or not !

No I don't rep Jesus at work. But I just had a Jehova's Wittness competitor use his christian coalition connections to come into my market and take a large contract which he screwed up and over charged, and left me to clean up the mess. Tree work is about tree skills and tree knowledge.
Pray if it makes you happy. Don't use it for an unfair business advantage.

I know a guy that refused to use spurs for removals. Doesn't do clean-up. Jobs take him forever. Charges the crap outta people. Very religious. Also uses his church connections, intimidating personality, and good Christian background to influence getting jobs.

My atheist friend will clean it all up, and haul it all out for about half of the cost. Funny.

My friend does try to disqualify customers if they start in with talk about "good Christian" this or that, as they are the most problematic, short of the ghetto customers where there is broken glass, dirty diapers, cars on blocks, and people try to run him out of the road, completely unnecessarily on side street, because he is not like them (he's white). Ironic.

To clarify, this guy won't use spurs because he never did. He's an old school rock climber who will use fixed lines and ascenders, up and down all day, working alone, even when his joints are killing him. Uses triple munter hitches for lowering small pieces, because why would he every use a portawrap???

He is so locked into his little box of being right that he can't even comprehend that others might know something that he doesn't. He always has The Difinitive Answer, as he always has. Uses circular illogic. Things in the Bible are true because the things in the Bible say so. So close minded and conservative. I suspect he hates gay people, because the bible tells him so.

I know that all religious people are not like this. My aunt and late uncle live(d) what they believe, having had over a hundred foster children with special medical needs, adopting 2 HIV-positive girls, my cousin (closet lesbian) has adopted 2 mentally-retarded children, other cousins all went on Christian missions in 2nd/ 3rd world countries doing things like building houses. Unfortunately, with the way the the Lord works in mysterious ways, my uncle was repaid with cancer and years of dialysis before dying. My aunt can barely walk or see from MSDs and macular degeneration. My cousin and his wife were not rewarded with the gift from God of a child, other cousin has had two failed marriages, and was sorta treated like the black sheep because of it, and maybe, just maybe the family has accepted, or at least acknowledged that my 40+ year old cousin might love another woman. My dad was rewarded for his faith with early onset Parkinson's Disease at 43, and has suffered from it for 25 years. The lord works in mysterious ways. Just ask Job, who suffered torment after torment, loss after loss, so that God could show the Devil that God had freewill, and was not locked into being a do-gooder (if I understand the text right). Oh, I almost forgot, my good catholic cousin has MS, too. Mysterious. Which part of this if due to freewill? Are they being punished for sins, while newly accepting of god/ born again mass murderers will be accepted into the kingdom of heaven because they have accepted the lord as their savior, while the murdered victims are going to a "better place" in heaven, oh with the mass murderers?

You ever studied that verse?

I'm pretty sure that the Hebrew or Aramaic word behind "stream", or river in other versions, can refer to irrigation channels.

Which is a notch up. Thet would imply or connote a maintained flow and supply.

I might be thinking of a corresponding verse in Psalms somewhere. But that sounded like it.

I don't think you neccessarily get rewarded in this earthly life for doing good deeds.

Seems like when ever I do something for free or help someone, that's when something goes wrong.

Sometimes things do come back around later and I get rewarded. But often I don't see it.

the reward might come when I'm dead and I have a C or B grade instead of an E.

like you just stated they where in a battle against evil, as we all know there are casualties. i bet they don't feel bitter and judgmental toward god. you'll do yourself good not to judge the judge. remember this is his world.

I do good not because a book says, but because it's common sense. What goes around comes around. I also believe though that one must fill their own cup in order to fill others. It is way too hard to do it the other way around...

I have read every post up to this one. My feelings are mixed about the thread. Although I appreciate the opportunity to express my utter distaste at having had to work with companies that require my presence at a daily prayer, I also believe in anyone else's right to express their faith in the company of fellow believers. It doesn't bother me that anyone pray to anything, only that I be required to participate. That requirement causes me a lot of consternation and frustration and generally, because of those feelings, I find myself denigrating the faith instead of the wayward faithful. The religious can ruin the religion in my opinion (and it's only mine and you can't take it away from me). I love this country because of the strict separation of church and state. I love that my right to pray or not to pray is equally protected by the state. I wish that my fellow Americans would also honor everyone equally. I am pretty sure there's something "in there" about treating people how you would like to be treated. Seems that means that there's a mandate to respect each person (and consequently their beliefs, or lack there of) equally. That means that if Christians want to live up to their God's mandate, then they must keep HIM out of our workplace! I appreciate your time and consideration of my own personal beliefs.

Personally, I believe that an employer should have the right to advertise for and employ anyone they want. Whether is be an entire crew of Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, Etc..

A stand against a single-religion and like-minded workplace must be based on at least one form or religion ... an unwritten one.

A person could say that something like that would be wrong. To which the natural question is "WHY is that wrong?".

Basically, to believe that there IS a right and wrong, is in itself a religion, even if not outwardly omitted.

A genuine and pure attempt to cull religion from the workplace or laws, must simultaneously remove any reference to the idea of "right" or "wrong". For neither one can be proved.

Many years ago the company who carried my worker's comp insurance would send out a monthly newsletter.

There are two stories that I remember that made me redefine work. Here's the story...I'll make a tie-in to this thread after the story.

The crews had gotten back to the shop early because of snow falling. The snow was perfect for a snowball fight. Everyone, including the owner was having fun dodging hits. But someone slipped and got hurt. Off to the hospital and out of work for some time. When the case ended up in court the insurance company had to cover the bills of course. But, in addition, the injured employee's lawyer asked for additional compensation because of the 'unsafe workplace' that the owner was promoting. The insurance had to pay the additional compensation.

Second story...the owner had a company picnic at his house. The employees were 'required' to be there and were paid just the same as a regular work day. Alcohol was served...you guessed, someone got hurt with horseplay at the party. The court ruled that it was a company event and as such was governed by workplace rules.

Like it or not, the rule of law will cover what we can do at work.

These two comments should be re-read:

Telling or condoning sexual or off-color jokes can have the same consequences. Would anyone tolerate racist jokes?

Do what you'd like, but be ready for consequences.

I generally agree with your post but I don't get this statement.

There's people on both sides of whether God should be in our schools, government, public building artwork, etc..

But almost either side, believes and states a right and wrong. Like say the people who would have the 10 commandments taken off walls.

Well let's take this last group. Most if not all of them, would say that its "wrong" to steal. Many of the same folks believe in evolution, or that man is homo sapiens.

So let's run with that idea. That we are animals (You and me baby, we are nothing but mammels, let's do it like they do on the discovery channel - lol).

**************

BLOODHOUND GANG - LETS DO IT LIKE THEY DO ON THE DISC. CH.

**************

In the animal kingdom, for it, I've never heard ANYbody teach that its wrong for one animal to steal another animal's food. To take another animal's home. To fight and take another animal's mate. For one animal to kill another animal.

The same evolutionists who would not say that animals do right or wrong, and label us as Homo sapiens, WILL teach that our actions are right or wrong, based off what THEY deem and believe to be right or wrong.

My question is "what is the basis for that belief?" To their dismay, it probably stems from God's written word that they have had passed down to them from mind to mind over the centuries, even though they wouldn't want to admit it. Because outside of God or a higher moral being, there is not basis for right or wrong.

Without God, any teaching about right or wrong is simply a religion. Its a belief system. Even if the person themself is who they trust on the pedestle.

So to the Evolutionists, I say CowboyUp and Grow a set balls. To them I draw a line in the sand and say quit trying to play in both arenas. Pick a side. We are animals or we were created. Pick your side 100%.

If they pick animals, where we are Homo sapiens, I say great, let us claim our animal rights then and live by however we choose to act. Let us fight who we will to fight. Let us forcefully take whatever food we wish to take. Let us fight for dominance in whatever neighborhood we choose for our den. Don't give me this right or wrong crap that you have no proof or basis for other than an opinion.

But personally, I subscribe to a higher power and that there is a right or wrong stemming from a spiritual God.
