How is praying at work tree related?

Hiking boots, a topic in which a new thread is started every month, sometimes more, is a much more tree related topic than GOD.

Take it to OT. This would be the same as me starting a politics thread about taxes in the General forum, and saying its tree related, BS!

LOL.

I recall one church for example in southern Oregon, with several thousand in the congregation. It's casual, and people attend wearing boots, sandals and shoes.

Last month, I saw women with tatooes wearing boots in downtown Portland.

Boots are not related to tree care. Boots are related to people and feet.

Let's hear another one.

Now to agree with you ... personally I'd have started this topic in another zone like you suggested.

[/ QUOTE ]

Really? Boot discussions arent related to treecare? Arent we required by ANSI to wear boots? Arent boots one of the more popular topics on here month after month, in direct relation to which boot is best for TREEWORK?

[/ QUOTE ]

And there are laws about religion too. And don't we apply and learn about laws in relation to the workplace?

Next line?

So now we almost back full circle again.

Show me how Jesus in the workplace is deserving of a topic in the General tree forum, and that boots for tree work isnt. Prove me this point and ill recommend Mark and Tom move my boot post, and all others asking which boot is best for our industry to TFZ.

Religion, politics, discrimination, la de da-we've gotten pretty judgmental in all our educated intellect. The other day when the whole top of a cedar elm came down on me 50ft in the air and not a limb hurt me or my crew I thanked the Lord Jesus. I ask him to care for us everyday in front of my men, they can take it or leave it. If we would stick up for our values, political or whatever, then the whole world wouldn't be trying to run over us. I just wish I were a better example of someone that has the Lord in his life.

According to the bible and other ancient manuscripts Jesus spent his entire life trying to help poor and ill people.

If we took this one message from history and really worked on it there would be much less suffering in the world.

But we wont will we? because capitalism has turned us into selfish greedy bastards, you can't deny it.

Because it's occuring at a tree business among people.

Why would boots be related? Because people are wearing them at a tree business.

Although, there are types of tree work that don't require boots or prayer at all.

I think the boots would seem like an interesting tree worker's discussion point. But religion in the workplace could be as well, clearly shown by several responses.

Maybe we will expound on a lesson someday....

The word grow in scripture, Greek "auxano" is related to the basis for the word "auxin". Biblically presented growth stems from leadership who teach principles by which people can retain and apply.

Good leadership in business, society or in trees affects the direction of growth. That's why I find the leaders in trees so facinating, because with them, the tree can be directed to spare and extend its existence. And the removal of too many leaders can be detrimental to both trees and society. It has to be done incrementally.

Oh yeah ... almost forgot ...

Didn't he talk about Sycamore trees? (eastern). Fig trees?

About trees being cut? Roots? Fruit?

Horticulture examples and principles combined.

Honestly, someone would have to declare themselves equally as "religious" to simple say at a workplace that stealing is wrong, even if they did not believe in "Jesus". Because the concept of right vs. wrong still boils down to "religion" of sorts.

Ive always thought that ethics was derived from an evolutionary need to coexist for greater survival. At least in our mammalian roots. Other species have taken a different route. Take parasitic wasps per instance.

Now you're wading in deep, ever read 'The Selfish Gene' by Dawkins?

I gotta say that if it works for you Joshua then by all means, pray before work. Who am I to say whether it's good for you or not?

I think you need to be cautious about having other people pray with you because they may not get the same benefit. They won't tell you if you're in a position of authority but it can because resentment. Use your judgment.

Be careful...this has lead to lawsuits. Whatever your intentions may be, mixing religion into the workplace, especially by management/owner, can lead to problems.

We are on a forum, right? Is this not a place to be discussing things? Or are we on a leash to only discuss approved things?

Just askin...

Freedom of speech. If your boss can't hang, time to move on

My thoughts exactly.

What works, works, what doesn't, doesn't.

I start my day off as often as possible with prayer and while I encourage those who work with me to develop their spiritual health there is no one who can say I shove it down their throat.

Believe what you will but the fact remains that despite history and other evidence to suggest deity or randomness of events, we simply don't know where we came from and where we are going.

And until it is lights out none of us here will be any closer to those answers.

For me, I have weighed the evidence both historical and circumstantial.

Religion, like politics, is poison. It encourages corruption and abuse. I am against "Religion" completely.

But a personal relationship with the God of the Universe is where it is at. I have chosen to follow the Triune God called Yahweh, The Great I Am.

My life is the better for it. The lives of those around me are better for it. And there is no reason to think that my spirit will not thrive after this feeble body of mine has collapsed for the final time because of it.

And even if I am wrong, it will still have been worth the effort for my time here and the lasting effects it can have on those whose lives I have touched for the positive.

Excellent post Rick.

I pray by myself at home before work or in the truck on the way to work.

I try to do it every day, asking for protection for myself and crew and all my family members, friends, relatives and country.

I do believe in God and Jesus and have seen intervention quite a few times in my life.

I do want a guardian angle or spiritual help working a dangerous occupation; where if I miss something or make a mistake, something else might save me or a crew member. And I've seen it and I do not believe it is luck or coincidence.

Sometimes those that push Jesus and God seem to be the biggest hypocrites, and that's a shame. Sometimes people use that to cover up their evil character. A tree guy around here has "the lord carries my load" on the backs of his trucks and he's a corrupt that has done insurance scams. I think he acts like a Christian to get customers to trust him.

I don't know that praying on company time having all the crew join is a good thing; unless all the men suggested it. If someone isn't a believing Christian, you might be just turning them off by doing what you are doing, doing the opposite of what you want to do. I think it's better to influence others by your actions and being more subtle. If you have a 100% believing Christian crew, then by all means, pray away! Otherwise, I say, do it by yourself before you work; or you might just be pushing others farther away....

Wow, hot topic! I'm probably best described as an agnostic. While I don't mind discussions of religion, politics or any other contentious topic though at work it can create a atmosphere that becomes hostile and undermines people's performance and loyalty.

Joshuatree, please read labor law and discrimination in the workplace law. Also read up on case law for decisions by the courts on the laws. If you hold a position of authority or leadership acknowledged by the owner of the business then your actions in the workplace can be misconstrued. As long as it is done in the shop it is tied to the job. Does it create an atmosphere where people feel that they need to go along with this in order to protect their employment? What is the purpose of the prayer prior to starting the day and how do you perceive it improving the workplace?

Armed with this information you can design a program for the start of the day that allows for employees to "clear their heads" and focus on work in a manner that allows some degree of freedom for the exercising of their own beliefs. In the context of presenting this program you can use yourself as an example of how you use prayer. In this way people who are of the same mind may connect with you while those that aren't feel comfortable about approaching this differently.

All in all, it's a virtual minefield you're walking into.

The law's intent is to make the workplace inclusive of all based on their abilities not their beliefs, ethnicity, color, creed, etc....

Be mindful of your good intentions.....

i dont openly but am trying harder to let my actions represent him. recently been trying to reconnect and will pray to myself before i go up most of the time. sometimes just too focused on task at hand and it slips my mind. but i am trying to incorporate him more into my life as a whole. not just work.

I didn't see this thread...and it is getting rather long.

But, yes. I try to represent Jesus (by my actions) the best way I can.

I live my life and conduct business with a Biblical worldview.
