How I set up my access line

First thing I do is set up my climbing system from the ground as if I were starting from the ground up.
Second, instead of clipping into my saddle, I clip into
my access line I want in the tree.
Thirdly, I pull the sytem up into the canopy with my tail
rope and access line parrallel.
After my system is at a point where I can securely lanyard in, I make sure my Hitch on my system is SET.
Here's a picture....

After that I prussick in to both lines...
footlock up, secure myself, clip into my system
and send the end of the access line back down over
a limb to the ground..

After reading the thread about backing up the dual kongs,
I was thinking I could run the system all the way up until it cinches around the branch creating two static lines allowing me to use dual ascenders without individual back ups? I have not tried it yet!

So you footlock into the tree, lanyard in, detatch the high visability rope, and clip the Fly line and rig onto your harness? Did you say that you leave the high vis line in the tree as an access line?

I like that idea Roger. That way there's no risk of dropping your rope while trying to get tied in after footlock entry. I almost did that not too long ago. Actually, it might have been in the Master's Challenge in Owensboro. THAT would have been embarassing!

LOL, all you guys did a great job in Owensboro.

Roger, I do like this idea, are you always in the habit of setting a rescue line?

A guilty conscience won't allow me to say yes... it should become more of a habit. Good to hear from ya SirTR.

I was really hoping to get some input as to the validity of this technique. Whether or not some may a see a benefit or if someone has done this for years. Did I somehow come up with this through osmosis? Just wanted to share what I thought was a good idea be it mine or someone else's.

Thats the first I've seen of that system. I really like the looks of it. I'll have to try it out.
I like the idea of haveing an access line set in the tree at all times. This seams like an easy way.

Thanks RogerM, Got to try that technique today, it worked great. Only thing is that i pulled it up well above any good branch to stand on, that made it difficult to tie into.(just alittle awkward) but a great technique for sure.

I see the merit of your system from a safety point. There is a line always ready. I bet some bosses wouldn't be too keen on the time it takes to set it up.

Roger, you might like what's in the picture I attached...

No...it is not. The j-lock is not auto locking. It does require 3 motions to open it, but when you close the thing, you have to do the 3 motions in the opposite direction.

It takes no more time than it would to footlock up a double line, then pull up your spliced eye and tie in. This way here your knots already tied once you reach it

Nice system, nice handiwork Nick.

i think it is easy enough to place friction hitch backup on; especially if you tie them all the time.

What if you aren't climbing up to your TIP and have non- retrieveable seperate lines (as pictured?)?

TreeSpyder,
Good question, this happened to me and it makes it difficult because you cannot retrieve it. I think that is the biggest limitation of the system, however if your aware of that, then you just pull it up to where you can access it. Right?
