It's not about making good money as much as it is about being paid as a business not just an off the books employee.
Consider what you'd make as an employee, add the payroll overburden (employer contributions to SS, UI, etc...) Add on insurance, administration costs, overhead, and, last but not least, gross profit margin.
If you could be earning $25/hr as an employee then you need to be charging a whole lot more as a contractor to cover all the expenses otherwise incurred by the employer.
