Holes in Hardhats

Our safety director came down to check things out this week and made mention of the holes in the vented petzl helmets. He said that they're not safe since they're not dielectric tested or however you spell it. Would you get dissappointed with your crews if they had such helmets? It's like I'm an intern for the summer and I paid for the helmet with my pennies and he tried to tell me that it wasn't safe. I don't really plan on working that close to heavy power lines anyways. I just can't believe he had an issue with this.

The rules for that may be changing. I believe hard hats are initially tested by dipping the outer part of the hat in water and measuring the electrical leakage. The new method involves placing a metal liner inside the hard hat and then testing it. Holes would then be considered ok because obivously no water is involved.
I've read this somewhere in the past year in a safety magazine.
