HH 2

Well I took the plunge ordered the new HH2 now to figure out which hitch cord to use with it. I use arbormaster 1/2" any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I use 10mm in a VT for DRT right now and enjoy the way it works. Would all that enjoyment transfer to the HH.

I found the arbormaster flattened out quite a bit, worked OK, I switched to vortex, works much better, no bounce, smooth and controlled, keeps round reasonably well. I run a HH with the stock beeline, no issues, I climb may be twice a week, about 200lbs saddled up.

The HH2 does not come with any hitch cord. I was thinking of upgrading to vortex. You may have just pushed me over the edge. Do you know what size the hitch cord is that came with the the original hitch hiker? I gotcha by a few lbs when I am all saddled up.

Being that you are already comfortable with 1/2" rope, Vortex would be a good choice. I have had good response with 9mm ArbPro tied in the HH hitch pictured in the instructions. I haven't tried any myself but EpiCord is getting great reviews.

Cool, I think I might just order a few different types and see which works the best just needed a few recommendations to know what to order. Now for my next question what length does a guy need? Prob should have asked that sooner. [emoji6]

Luckily with the HH there is no length really. Just order a bunch of 4-5 foot lengths, tie and adjust as needed. Once you find that magic combination then you can trim the extra off.

I like this stuff so far on Vortex. I haven't had it a long time yet, so I can't speak to durability, but it's soft and supple and feels great in the hands. Also, at 9mm, it fits through the dogbone no problem. Here's the link.

Also, I agree with what monkeylove said about length. I'm one who tends to not be bothered much by long tails on my hitch cord. I find that if your hitch cord is just long enough to work for your setup when everything is tied up tight and the system is weighted, it can be tough to get your knots tied in the first place.

With a bit of extra length on the hitch cord, it becomes much easier to tie the termination knots. The Hitch Hiker's termination knots don't seem to use up as much cordage as trying to tie fisherman's knots like you would with a Rope Wrench. I find four feet works nicely for the Hitch Hiker, but if I wanted to also be able to use it with a Rope Wrench, for termination on a biner with fisherman's knots, I would probably want to have five feet of hitch cord.

Also, I forgot to mention, everyone is talking about the new epicord that is advertised at the bottom of the page. I have not tried it yet, but if I were you, I would for sure buy some of that, maybe in multiple diameters.

I've been working on blue moon w 8mm hrc for about two years. works great for my style. Just tried out 9.3 epicord on sat, and it seemed to work ok. But the big surprise came from 1/2 inch km3 and 10mm ocean. Huge difference while climbing. The 1/2 in line is a bit heavy to pull around but I love the performance. Can't wait to try out the hh2 in state college in a couple weeks. I'll prob have to steal donnys.....I mean order one after that.
